The Celebrity Traitors season two lineup teased in trailer

The BBC yesterday confirmed the names of all 21 stars who have signed up for series two of the Celebrity Traitors – and this year’s “big dogs” look set to be Jerry Hall and Miranda Hart or perhaps Michael Sheen and Richard E Grant.

The show, set amid the beauty of the Scottish Highlands at Ardross Castle, is due to start filming this weekend with the celebs due to start arriving at Inverness airport. Also taking part are BBC presenter Amol Rajan, The Last of Us actress Bella Ramsey and comedian James Acaster – not to be mixed up with You’re Beautiful singer James Blunt, who has also signed up.

Then there are comedy stars Joanne McNally and Joe Lycett, former Corrie legend Julie Hesmondhalgh and social media content creator King Kenny. Little Mix star Leigh-Anne Pinnock will be in the castle along with Love Island presenter Maya Jama, Industry actress Myha’la and BBC maths guru Professor Hannah Fry. Rob Beckett with be bringing laughs along with his TV sidekick Romesh Ranganathan, flanked by former EastEnder Ross Kemp and My Mad Fat Diary star Sharon Rooney plus Game of Thrones actor Sebastian Croft.

Once the filming starts this weekend, the 21 players will be separated into Traitors and Faithfuls, following lengthy interviews with presenter Claudia Winkleman and members of the production team. From that point onwards, their mission will be to discover which of them are paying nightly visits to the turret wearing the greed hooded cloaks – to decide which of the remaining group will be murdered.

The majority of the cast are actors, with 10 of them in the castle compared with five comedians, three TV presenters, two pop stars and a social media influencer. Bella Ramsey, 22, got her breakthrough role in Game of Thrones and proved a huge hit as Ellie in The Last of Us. Richard E Grant has just finished paying Mr Bennet alongside Ruth Jones in BBC1’s The Other Bennet Sister and is best known for his role in 80s cult classic Withnail & I.

American Jerry Hall, 69. whose former husbands include Rolling Stone Mick Jagger and media mogul Rupert Murdoch, is best known for starring in the West End plus on screen for her role in Batman. Julie Hesmondhalgh was much-loved as Weatherfield’s Hayley Cropper until 2014 and has since starred in many other TV shows, including ITV’s award-winning drama Mr Bates Vs the Post Office.

Comedy favourite Miranda Hart, 53, has been suffering with chronic fatigue syndrome for many years, meaning she had to take a break from her TV career, but is now on the path to recovery. Acclaimed Welsh actor Michael Sheen, 57, is best known for his portrayals of real-life people, including Tony Blair in The Queen, David Frost in Frost/Nixon and Brian Clough in The Damned United.

Californian-born Myha’la, 30, plays Harper Stern in BBC drama hit Industry and also had a role in Netflix series Black Mirror. Ross Kemp made his name as Walford hard man Grant Mitchell, and has just returned for a guest stint. The 61-year-old also makes documentaries and is host of BBC quiz Bridge of Lies.

Like Bella, Sebastian Croft’s made his name as a youngster on Game of Thrones, playing the young Ned Stark. The 24-year-old later drew acclaim for his role as Ben Hope in Netflix’s hit teen drama Heartstopper. Scottish actor Sharon Rooney, 37, is best known for playing Rae Earl in My Mad Fat Diary, more recently appearing in the BBC’s Daddy Issues and Nightsleeper.

Viewers will be expecting plenty of comedy thanks to the inclusion of stand-ups James Acaster, 41, and Joanne McNally, 42, who are also both podcasters, along with Rob Beckett, 40, and Romesh Ranganathan, 48, who know each other very well thanks to their Sky series Rob and Romesh Vs.

The three TV presenters in the mix have very different areas of expertise. Professor Hannah Fry, 42, is a maths expert recognised for her BBC documentaries which include a recent series explaining AI to the masses. Amol Rajan, 42, quit his role on Radio 4’s Today programme earlier this year in order to launch his own production company, but will continue as host of long-running quiz University Challenge. And Maya Jama, 31, is a former radio presenter who now hosts ITV’s huge reality show Love Island.

On the music front, former army captain James Blunt’s debut album Back to Bedlam was one of the best-selling albums of the 2000s with around 14million copies sold. The 52-year old can potentially bond with Leigh-Anne Pinnock, who went solo three years ago after achieving huge success as one quarter of Little Mix. And finally influencer King Kenny is a 29-year-old YouTuber, real name Kenny Ojuederie, who has a following of over 2 million subscribers on the platform.

Rather than take any winnings themselves, the celebrity players will again be donating anything they get from the potential £100,000 jackpot to their chosen charities. Although filming starts now, the series is not expected to air on BBC1 until the autumn, as it did last year when the likes of Sir Stephen Fry, Paloma Faith, Charlotte Church and Jonathan Ross took part.

The series proved a huge hit with 15million viewers tuning in across the run and a peak audience of 15.4m for the finale which was won by Alan Carr, who unmasked himself as a Traitor in the final moments, before collapsing in tears with the strain of it all. That end scene has now been nominated for the TV Moment of the Year gong at the BAFTAs next weekend.

In recent months there has been much wild speculation about who might take part in 2026, with reports suggesting that Danny Dyer, Ruth Jones, Liam Gallagher, Cheryl Tweedy and Peter Crouch would be joining the second run of Celebrity Traitors. Other wrong suggestions included Alison Hammond and Louis Theroux.
