The role in the 1979 episode from the show’s second series came despite strong objections from her representative.
Ms Nielson recalled that her agent had been “furious” about her accepting the part, fearing it would damage her prospects.
“Back then, pretty young women who did light entertainment stopped being offered dramatic parts but I’d always preferred comedy, so I didn’t care,” she explained.
By the time she filmed the episode, Ms Nielson had already established herself over two decades in the industry.

Ms Nielson grew up in Glasgow, attending Broomlea School before training at the Royal Scottish Academy of Dramatic Art.
She later honed her skills at Joan Littlewood’s Theatre Workshop in London.
Her first marriage to actor and producer Dennis Vance produced a daughter, Peggy, before ending in 1966.
