I mean if it *were* true, based on what was said… would they really confirm it? Lol

    2. atweegrowsinbrooklyn on

lol their source is “multiple sources connected to [the wife]”. The comments are full of people ripping TMZ because her behavior is actually widely known in Hollywood.

    3. This seems weirdly personal.
Chelsea Peretti hasn’t been particularly public for the last few years, but Akilah needs to quote her as saying, “There’s no accounting for how much money she’s cost that Black man”?

    4. VR_Troopers_WikiMod on

I can confirm the fake eucalyptus plant story actually happened, and that behavior alone explains everything else Akilah said.

If Peretti comes out and denies it or if Hughes has a reputation for talking shit and exaggerating to the point of slander *then* I’ll rethink the validity of the story. I don’t think Hughes expected the footage to get so much traction but I still find it hard to believe that anyone who is trying to succeed in the business would tell that story unless there was truth to it. As a comic, I’m sure that certain liberties were taken to punch up the humor but the mention of Brynn Hartman’s name strikes me as “yeah, that conversation happened” because there’s nothing funny about that comparison.

I wonder what the texts between “Lock” and “Banana” have looked like since it went public.

I’m kind of torn on whether she should’ve made all this public. I do feel bad that her dream project was in the process of happening before his wife blew it all up. But at the same time, I feel like that Phil Hartman line is going to ruin any chances of them working together again. Like, maybe dont say that part?

    7. laughingintothevoid on

I don’t know much about this, I probably believe her. But I gotta say aside from Lock and Banana this wasn’t a a very funny comedy set. I like ‘story’ comedy but this was really just her unloading, not crafted into a set in any way or told entertainingly. This is how I would tell it. I guess she needed it off her chest. But respectfully this being my first exposure to her isn’t strongly supporting that she should ever have been among the precious few to get paid “many figures” for some big show. Script writing is a different forte though, I get that.

I hope Lock is ok. And good on Banana and Banana’s wife for keeping the friendship, a lot of people give up in a situation like this.

I saw an interview that Key did with his wife and she spoke for him the entire time. The only defense to defamation/slander is the truth and idkkk

    9. Usual-Yak3951 on

I don’t even go here but comparing the lady to Phil Hartman’s wife (and murderer) is vile. Sheesh 😬

    10. BarnacleLady on

I saw a reddit thread like 2 or 3 years ago talking about Elle Key’s behavior from the poster and confirmed by others in the comments so I believe Akilah.

    11. probloodmagic on

Nah, I believe the comedian. “Sources close to the wife” yeah of course they’ll lie for her, they’re probably scared of her too.

    12. infinityonhigh69 on

if you’re a fan of the read then you’ve been known about this tea 😭😭 that lady has been terrible since at least 2018 lmaoo

    13. Dry_Educator_691 on

I listened to the whole thing and it sounds pretty nuts to just make up, and oddly specific. Also Akilah Hugh’s is a writer and kinda does a ton of producing work. Basically….. this looks/rings true in my opinion

    14. stink3rb3lle on

I just looked up and watched the set on YouTube. I don’t know if Mrs. Key is taking advice from Melissa Nathan or what, but the video has just over 200k views and I feel like *responding to this at all* is as much of a confirmation of her personality issues as is possible. Like of course an egomaniacal control freak like that would blow this up into a bigger story.

    15. Wait as far as I was aware she was talking about some fella named Lock. He thinks she was referring to him? Huh.

    16. pearshaped34 on

I hope she had Chelsea Peretti’s permission to reveal that she warned her about the wife and likened her to Phil Hartman’s wife who murdered him, because if not that is kind of a wild thing to reveal about someone who was clearly trying to help her by sharing that information.

    17. WestCoastBestCoast01 on

The Keys just moved to fire island and there are already rumblings about this lady from the locals. I believe the comedian!

    18. ArrivalAlarming358 on

Sometimes just based on the headline alone, I can already tell that reading any further will benefit my life in no possible way. I just don’t need to know about this!

    19. Fragrant-Vehicle-479 on

Ture or not, that was not a story to tell publicly. On one hand I get being jaded that you missed out on a deal because the interference with his wife, but you are also very publicly dragging other people, namely Chelsea Peretti into it. Like could you imagine being Jordan Peele and Chelsea Peretti and suddenly your phone is blowing up because some random comedian claimed Chelsea was going around trashing Key’s wife? I’m not usually one for “don’t speak out”, I love when shitty people get consequences, but I there’s something about this situation specifically that did not feel like it needed to be revealed in this manner.

    20. One of my friends worked their wedding and told me that Elle and her mother were terrible terrible terrible to work with. Absolute control freaks, and very much wanted to through Keegan’s celebrity around

    21. heathers-damage on

This would be such a weirdly specific thing to lie about. Also having worked with batshit crazy white women in professional settings, this all sounds so fucking real.

    22. Infinite-Ad5654 on

I’ve met them as a couple at an event over a couple days and I absolutely believe Akilah. Elle definitely controls the narrative and tries many tactics to divert and have his attention or others attention on her.

    23. HatefulDan on

Get Out really was a love letter to Key. He tried to help/reach his mans thru the power of art. That one skit makes so much sense now. The “b……tch” one 😭😂😂

    24. SwordofNoon on

It’s crazy this is how I find out Jordan Peele is married to Gina from Brooklyn nine-nine

    25. electrictulip on

I’m kind of stunned she did this set in the very litigious era of 2026, especially about someone who is notoriously unchill

    26. Ok-Turnip-9035 on

I watched it this morning and I hoped it was true but water is wet I guess ..
