    1. “Jimmy Fallon is the court jester of the Anthropocene, a figure who invites us to watch celebrities play parlor games on stage while the air outside the studio begins to smell of tear gas and smoke. To watch Fallon is to stare at the face of a culture that has chosen the comfort of a rictus grin over the heavy, necessary terror of the truth.”

    2. This made for some superb reading. When Kimmel was suspended, Fallon was noticeable quiet/subdued. He toed the line and showed his true colours.

Nothing against Fallon personally, but there’s something rather desperate about his comedy, like if you don’t laugh, you’re letting him down somehow. It’s very off-putting and places the comedic onus on the audience instead of on the comedian.

    4. One of those articles where someone much smarter than myself perfectly articulates my general loathing of this tw*t.

    5. This plus never having read anyone really liking him as a person (besides Justin Timberlake?) really just solidifies why he gives me such an ick. It’s so aggressively goofy, idk. No like.

FYI this is an excellent piece from an issue full of excellent pieces. Highly recommend subscribing to Current Affairs. Their print editions make the best coffee table books, your guests will thank you! I subscribed two issues ago and they’re running a promotion where if you cancel the NYT you get a year free (might just be digital).

    7. The clapping of hands at every single sentence the guests speak is probably the single most annoying thing I’ve ever seen.

Aggressive normalization of horrific reality is such an interesting force in our culture.

    9. Dude really was never funny, couldn’t stay in character for in SNL skit, and for some reason, ppl of the time thought he was somehow endearing. I never could understand how he got on SNL. Then, to give him a show where he whitewashes the world and fake laughs with every celebrity without ever taking a stand against anything…mind boggling no talent.

If you made Carson laugh you did something. This buffoon on the other hand.

Some article once described him as a wind up monkey toy and I’ve never thought of him as anything else since

He knew about Horatio Sanz grooming and sexually assaulting a minor, and he was exposed for being a terrible boss! How many more exposes must we get about this man!

I saw Jimmy do a standup routine at the White House and it was so bad. Like. So so bad. He did impressions of people and they were all the same.
