Marvel Studios unveiled the new Avengers: Doomsday trailer exclusively to audiences at CinemaCon in April before clips, breakdowns, and detailed explainers made their way online in the minutes, days, and weeks after that. Even now, a month removed from the event, and fans still can’t stop talking about that trailer – despite the fact that most of them have not actually seen it.
It goes without saying that Marvel Studios are masters of secrecy and despite the fact that this is getting increasingly harder in this day and age of social media and quick clips, they have successfully protected the footage itself from leaking online – quickly removing any clips that surfaced shortly after they first surfaced. And yet, they haven’t managed to stop the detailed breakdowns of the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s game-changer from, well, breaking the internet.
So, even though most of us haven’t seen the trailer, we know what happens in it. And there are four major moments we need to be talking about a whole lot more as we wait for the studio to release a new one (which may be a lot longer of a wait than we hoped). With that in mind, here are the four big ones that have set the tone for what to expect from the film.

Yelena battles Mystique… as Yelena?!
We knew that introducing the X-Men into the world of the Marvel Cinematic Universe would lead to some unexpectedly epic crossovers, but when I tell you we didn’t see this one coming I mean that we didn’t see this one coming!
According to official breakdowns, we will indeed see a thrilling battle between Florence Pugh’s Yelena Belova and Rebeca Romijn’s Mystique – but with one caveat: Mystique will use her unique shapeshifting abilities to transform into Yelena herself.
The moment has been described as an epic Florence Pugh vs. Florence Pugh showdown in which both fighters will be able to showcase their expert hand-to-hand combat skills in a bid to outdo each other. There is also speculation that Mystique will be able to use Yelena’s form to infiltrate the Avengers / New Avengers whenever the heroes cross into the X-Men’s territory.

Shang-Chi and Cyclops will do battle
Another one of the moments from the Avengers: Doomsday CinemaCon trailer that has sent the internet into complete meltdown is the confrontation between Shang-Chi and Cyclops. Now, this is exciting for a number of reasons. First of all, this – and the clip of Yelena battling Mystique – means that we are going to see the Avengers and the X-Men do battle at some point throughout the movie. And that can only mean great things. These are the two defining Marvel teams to dominate the silver screen over the past quarter of a century so to see them share the screen – and even fight – is just so incredible. Two worlds really will collide!
Secondly, Shang-Chi taking on Cyclops is a brilliant and yet unforeseen idea. The two are so largely different in what they can do, but the idea of seeing Shang-Chi’s Ten Rings go up against Scott Summers’ optic blasts is something that we all didn’t know we needed. It’s going to be a moment for the ages.
It’s also going to be great to see Simu Liu back on our screens as Shang-Chi. It goes without saying that Shang-Chi And The Legend of the Ten Rings was one of the best titles of the Multiverse Saga, so we’ve been waiting to see the titular character return for nearly five years. Avengers: Doomsday will finally give us that moment.

Doctor Doom vs. Thor
In what might just be the most pivotal moment in the whole movie, the Avengers: Doomsday CinemaCon trailer teased a battle between the God of Thunder himself, Thor, and the main villain of both this film and its 2027 sequel Avengers: Secret Wars Doctor Doom (played by none other than Robert Downey Jr. himself). That alone will surely make for a visual of epic proportions considering that Thor is one of the strongest Avengers, but the details reveal that it will simply serve to show us how powerful Doom truly is.
According to the breakdowns of the trailer, Thor rushes at Doom with his iconic axe Stormbreaker, swinging it at the villain, who is able to stop it with just two fingers. Now this is a game-changer, because it highlights how strong Doom is; not only can he stop the axe, but he can slow the momentum of the God of Thunder (which is obviously no easy feat) and seemingly match his raw power.
That is terrifying….

Steve Rogers and Thor reunite
The Avengers: Doomsday trailer closes on a more uplifting note. After Thor’s soul-destroying Stormbreaker run-in with Doctor Doom, he has a more positive one with his other weapon… and an old friend. Yes, Steve Rogers will once again cross paths with the God of Thunder, leaving Thor positively stunned. When he says “It can’t be,” Steve reaches out and Mjolnir comes to him, proving that after all this time he is still worthy.
Needless to say, this will be one of the most emotional moments of the movie. Seeing Chris Hemsworth and Chris Evans back on our screens as two of the original Avengers will ensure that longtime fans of the MCU feel seen, and it will no doubt allow the rather jumbled Multiverse Saga to maintain a sense of focus as Avengers: Doomsday will be officially tied to the four previous Avengers movies in a way that the original idea for the movie – Avengers: The Kang Dynasty – would not have been.
Hemsworth’s involvement in the movie was clear from the very start (due to that five-hour livetsream cast announcement ahead of production), but Marvel Studios officially confirmed the rumors of Evans’ in the first teaser trailer for the movie that was released in theaters at the end of 2025. Knowing that he will cross paths with his old friend again ensures that all of the OG Avengers fans must see this one, too! We can’t wait to see that in the film itself!
Avengers: Doomsday arrives in movie theaters on December 18, 2026.
