How Israel Turned Eurovision’s Stage Into a Soft Power Tool – Israel’s efforts to influence Eurovision’s vote were broader and started years earlier than previously known.

    1. Eurovision has been completely ruined by this for me.

It used to be a fun and campy contest, but they say it’s not political and then get swayed by politics.

    2. Glad for the piece but can’t help but think it would have been far more impactful had it been published months ago.

Tbf we kinda have to let them in as they are a majority European country.

Don’t go asking for DNA testing though they don’t like that…..

To the shock of absolutely no one…

I won’t be tuning in and I’m so proud of the countries who are boycotting because of this.

    5. Saying you want to make a song contest non political but then separate contestants by countries, giving everyone country flags, and having the points scored on a country-by-country basis has always been a self-defeating project.

    6. Article makes no mention of the contest’s title sponsorship by Israeli company Moroccanoil. Until that goes, the ESC will be tainted goods.

      Soft propaganda, not power.

Before they were desperate, they were decent. Always ones to watch out for.

But now, the last few years?

Even if Israel wasn’t…Israel, its presence in the literal EUROvision was questionable from the start. For that matter Australia shouldn’t have been there either.

It says enough that the EBU was willing to let 5 countries go just for THEM to stay. The contest has gone downhill. People that hate Israel are boycotting and not voting and people that love israel are massively using all their votes on them, making them win the public vote again this year and again and again. And the EBU have their heads in their own ass. “booo what can we do?” how about banning them like you banned Russia?

So the ruling politicians of a competing country organised and funded a campaign to manipulate the votes using their political propaganda funds. And Eurovision decided not to investigate it because of political pressure from politicians to allow vote manipulation by Israeli politicians.

Great job keeping politics out of Eurovision guys.

    11. Why a country “native” to the Middle East has to be in an European competition to begin with? Are Egypt or Libya included? Or just western colonies allowed, like Australia

Will never watch again, also proud to be one a citizen of one of the few countries who had the balls to leave the contest.

    13. I mean hasn’t this always been the case? There’s always been voting blocs between eg former soviet states, the Balkans, Scandinavia, Greece & Cyprus, the UK & Ireland. Ukraine’s recent win was also heavily politicised, really don’t think this is any sort of revelation
