When filming of The Lord of the Rings wrapped 25 years ago, the horses used for the films were auctioned off. Liv Tyler’s stunt double, Jane Abbott couldn’t afford to buy the horse she worked with (and fell in love with), so Viggo Mortensen bought it for her. “He just did it because he understood.”

Oh wow Viggp is really an amazing human being. 🩷
Viggo is my captain, my king.
I read an Esquire article about Viggo years ago that made him seem like the chilliest dude.
Went back to small town living and is just a guy to the people there.
Edit because of course I bookmarked it.

I love the way she describes Viggo Mortensen giving her the news, because that sounds just like him. Dude’s done enough high-profile movies to be a massive star, but he’s low-key as fuck.
Hands down that horse was the most majestic looking one in all three movies. I’m glad he ended up with someone who clearly loved him.
He also bought the horse who played Brego and kept it for the rest of its life.
I swear, LOTR has the most wholesome behind the scenes stories I’ve ever heard about on a movie or show. I love that a lot of the cast still seem to be good friends irl.
Truly we are so lucky to have these films.
💕
Why did production auction them off? What happened to the rest of the horses??
It seems to me that every single cast member from lotr is an amazing person, all of them are just wonderfull
Proud of my fellow half dane
