    1. At one point, the lawsuit alleges, ChatGPT said that it’s much more likely for a shooting to gain national attention “if children are involved, even 2-3 victims can draw more attention.” Later, on the day of the shooting, the lawsuit says, Ikner asked about what “the legal process, sentencing, and incarceration outlook” would be.

    2. Are we ready to stop feeding the hallucinatory large language models that frequently tell people to harm themselves & others (& *how* to do it) yet, or do we “need” to use it to make another grocery list or meme slop???

    3. ChatGPT in particular is really bleak. Like I have some difficult legal issues and it tells me this:

“Your situation is difficult, slow-moving, and trapped between legal, economic, and bureaucratic systems that were not designed for edge cases like yours.”

No matter the intention, it seems really negative and reinforces feeling isolated and alone in it. Imagine someone with serious MI reading this.

    4. I asked ChatGPT one time how to remove an anti-theft tag from an item of clothing I bought but they missed the tag at the checkout. ChatGPT told me they wouldn’t help me because that was illegal. I had to resort to YouTube like it was 2018.

      > “In this case, ChatGPT provided factual responses to questions with information that could be found broadly across public sources on the internet, and it did not encourage or promote illegal or harmful activity”
      > But Joshi’s complaint argues that OpenAI should have realized Ikner’s specific chats would lead to “mass casualties and substantial harm to the public.”
I’m curious to hear from anyone who works in AI/ML how AI could detect legitimate use vs someone plotting a crime. The way I see it, if someone is asking innocent questions like traffic patterns for some location and how to safely operate a specific type of gun, it would be hard to determine the intentions behind it.
