Samsung has denied wrongfully using an image of Dua Lipa on their packaging, following $15 MILLION lawsuit filing: “The image was used only after receiving explicit assurance from the content partner that permission had been secured, including for the retail boxes.”

Surely a company like Samsung has a fleet of copyright lawyers and other experts to make sure that this sort of thing doesn’t happen? Packaging is a major part of their product, in a way.

I’m more inclined to believe she was wrongly informed she had a case than that they dropped the ball.

Samsung is pure dogshit and will blatantly lie. Don’t EVER buy their appliances. They are known for electronics, but South Korea is so corrupt that they let them expand into all kinds of markets after how much wealth they’ve amassed. They basically own a good chunk of the country.

I led a design team for a tech company in the not too distant past. They wanted a giant billboard using an unlicensed image. I had a backup ready with licensed images while they presumably secured the license. When I followed up the marketing guy had a temper tantrum screaming in the middle of this silent room of cubicles because he had no clue why a license would be necessary if he pulled the image from the Internet.

This is just one example of so many I have. I’m surprised this doesn’t happen more often. You guys might all be saying Dont these companies have lawyers to check things before they publish them, the issue is that marketing teams see this as unnecessary red tape and circumvent them every single day.

    5. I believe Dua! Korean companies have different ideas of what constitutes as fair use and copyright.

What nonsense, it’s her face so get her permission. I don’t even care if this is legal, it’s not right and Samsung should have just paid her to promote them if it was so important that she was on their box. Absolutely disgusting. It’s virtually impossible for most people to participate in society and not use products and services from immoral companies, but I am petty enough that I try my best and this response has put samsung on my list of “try not to use” companies (yes it’s way too long and basically every company would need to be on there, but it helps that I don’t put a company on there until I come across a story that pisses me off and don’t go looking for them – except for nestle. I will search for nestle owned companies to avoid)
