Legally, I don’t know how this case is going to play out. (And I know I’m gonna get a lot of shit for this opinion.)

But in the court of public opinion, I don’t know how you make a realistic medical drama set in an emergency ~~room~~ department of a major ~~midwest~~ [Edit:] non-coastal American city (starring Noah Wyle of all people!) after talks to do an actual ER reboot fell through and than say ER had ZERO influence on the show that finally aired.

I love The Pitt and all but I get why the Crichton Estate is pursuing this.

I mean it’s completely different. Instead of the Noah Wylie character having a drug problem, it’s his protege. Totally not the same.

(I’m saying this facetiously if it’s not obvious)

Hmm. I wouldn’t be able to confirm or deny because I’ve never seen ER. Medical shows can only be so expansive…kind of…so it wouldn’t shock me that two shows that take place in an ER would be similar. If you compare shows about hospitals, Grey’s and New Amsterdam are surface level similar. Watch the shows and they’re very different…but both revolve around the same subject.

    4. I mean even if it is a “rip-off” of ER, that show ended 20 years ago. Who cares if they re-used some of the concept of the show. It’s not like they’re competing for viewers.

    5. If someone’s dead, the estate should have 5yrs tops of ownership of copyright/trademarks/patents

Absolutely worth squelching after 2 seasons of excellent TV. What they’re doing in crafting the microcosm of a 15-hour day worked hour by grueling hour is not what ER was trying to do.

Crichtons widow has been grabbing for cash with his name since he died tbh (she’s put out like 4 of his unfinished books since he died)

I imagine Noah Wyle appearing in it gave people a lot of nostalgia for ER and that’s what initially made it popular. But an actor playing an ER doc twice doesn’t make it a copy. George Clooney was literally in a show called E/R before he was on ER.

    9. E.R. is a rip of of Casualty on the BBC which started in the 80s and has never stopped.

Noah Wyle is just a shit Charlie

    10. There’s obviously going to be similarities in any medical show. That being said I could point out more differences between the two.

    11. I don’t watch either, but I think rip-offs are more or less a guarantee with popular properties. And I think there’s likely nothing to be done about it. Is Kevin Costner gonna sure Spielberg for Avatar?

I enjoy the show. Recently started watching. But I’m a bit surprised by how universally loved it is online. It really feels like a half step away from being an after school special (about whatever topic they want to discuss, not quite talking directly to the camera but might as well be) but with gore.

    13. Imo, not that absurd at all. This is almost like the FutureCop thing I learned from the hbomberguy video.

    14. If you really want to follow that logic, all these shows borrowed from Emergency! .
