Emily Blunt Talks ‘Emotionally Exhausting’ Struggle With Stuttering
Actor Emily Blunt, along with Heather Grossman, the executive director of the American Institute for Stuttering, join TODAY to talk about Blunt’s very personal lifelong journey with stuttering and raising awareness of the neurological disability. They break down the common misconceptions of people with stutters, and Blunt opens up about the environments that still give her trouble with speaking fluency, including when saying her own name. “You feel like there’s this sort of imposter in your body that misrepresents who you really are,” she says.

Using her platform for good ❤ Emily
I stuttered when I was 6-8 years old and went to speech therapy then I got PTSD and my stutter came back until I went into rehab. The struggle is REAL!! Especially when you talked about your name! Sometimes I use to play it off as if I forgot…. Rock on!!
I stutter, and often two or three words that mean the same thing, fight to come out at the same time. I’ve accepted it, but it’s annoying.
My mom stuttered when she was a kid and occasionally she still does. She told me stories about being teased by her siblings and at school and she told me the struggle was real.
The Kings speech!
She articulates impeccably. Would never know Emily Blunt had a disfluency.
Glad to see her still talking about her stutter! Makes me not feel so alone!
Love Emily…so incredibly talented, gracious, humble…the list goes on!
As a Speech-Language Pathologist with a specialty in stuttering treatment, very disappointed that there was no mention of incredible organizations such as SFA (Stuttering Foundation of America) or NSP (National Stuttering Project)–and the impact SLPs have throughout the therapy process. For those like Emily Blunt who have struggled with stuttering, please consider these fantastic organizations for support or treatment opportunities.
What the heck has Emily done with her face? Too much fillers and Botox! Stop!
I’m so glad I came across this video!
What??!?! Incredible
Any old music will do. Mrs Emily
As someone who grew up with social anxiety, which generated similar feelings to those Emily described her stuttering as having caused, I am so pleased that she's spoken up on this.
Emily is awesome
Emily is so beautiful, thoughtful and humble. Such a radiant soul.
This is so relatable.
SO MANY GREAT ORATORS, ACTORS & SINGERS STARTED WITH A STUTTER! 💪
I'm sorry, what happened to the English rose with beautiful features? What did she do to her face!! No. It's not aging
What a poised, gracious, humble and articulate woman! Massively impressed with Emily.
This is something I didn't know abt her. I've loved her since DWP back 20 yrs ago.
Stuttering in Disclosure Day you mean.
Dictionaries are online now, she could easily learn the meaning of the term ''frustration''.
