Macaulay Culkin talks about Catherine O’Hara’s passing: “When Catherine passed away in January, that hit me. That hit me pretty good, ’cause, you know, it was just too soon. And I felt that we had unfinished business… I feel like I owed her a favor — and I don’t like having an outstanding debt.”

This is one of those celebrity deaths (like Chadwick and Robin) that really got to me. </3

I had the opportunity to see him on his tour in November (screening of Home Alone followed by Q&A). He talked a lot about their relationship and how he called her “Mamma”. When I saw the news that she passed, my mind immediately went him and my heart just broke for him.

    4. Oh man… if he feels that he owes her, he should simply just pay it forward.

However, the fact that he is in a happy relationship (by all appearances) and has two beautiful children that he loves and is openly trying to parent in the way he should have been parented (my God, he said he tells his kids he’s proud of them all the time because he never heard that…) was probably enough for her. I only saw his movies but it pleases me knowing his background that he seems so content and healthy now.

    5. I’m sure she didn’t think he did, but I absolutely recognize the feeling of wanting to repay the people who came before you and who helped you out. My mentor died suddenly in her 50s—she was hit by a car and it was awful—and I’ve done everything I can to pay things forward but I wanted to be able to return favors to HER specifically. You just think you’re going to have more time with people and there will be more somedays and sometimes, there aren’t.

He seems like a genuinely thoughtful and considerate man, which is a miracle in and of itself.

I truly believe that the fact he survived, and now has a family of his own whom he loves and adores, is the repayment. When he could have kept walking down a dark road, he chose the light.

He chose her words. Her impact and love to stop the abuse. That is enough, Macaulay. That is enough.

Oh man 😭 obviously i didn’t know her personally at all, but I can say without a doubt in my mind that there’s no way she felt he owed her anything more than the love he already showed her
