An Architect’s Hidden Bedroom Inside His 420-Sq-Ft NYC Studio | Architectural Digest

AD joins architect Brian Messana of Messana O’Rorke to tour his 420-square-foot studio apartment in New York City. When designing the space, Messana used his bed as a centerpiece while simultaneously hiding it inside a “jewel box”. Inspired by boutique hotel design, the home maximizes every inch with multifunctional furniture, a concealed kitchen, and minimalist interiors–creating a tranquil, airy space despite its small size.

    1. I am enamored with well-appointed small living spaces and yours is absolutely perfection. I personally would have placed brass on the back of the front door to feel completely enveloped in that stunning space.

    2. Wowsers! This is a phenominal transformation. As an unintentional maximalist I could only aspire to such clean lines and efficient design. Again, wowsers!!

    3. There are some nice ideas here, especially compared to the original space. But it's so dark and claustrophobic. It feels like an apartment for a party person who never wants to see daylight.
