On 17th of May, 2004, Pieces of Me was released. The single received pretty impressive radio play across the US and Europe, and stayed in the Hot 100 for six months.

This song cemented her status as an angsty pop starlet, in a year stacked with incredible releases.

For some reason, Ashlee stopped making music. But for the short time we had her, she gave us club anthems, a lot ot talk about related to the Simpson family when the music video for Shadow dropped, a feud, albeit one-sided by Lindsay Lohan, over a man who never dated age appropriately, a very noticeable makeover back when we couldn't talk about the obvious, and many a reality show appearance.

I think she was treated awfully after the SNL mishap though, as embarassing as that was.

This song was HUGE when my partner and I first started dating and I always heard it on the radio driving to/from.his house, so I have a real soft spot for it!

    2. The way she sang made it seem like she was spitting out the lyrics like “pppppieces pppppieces ppppieces of meee” and I loved it tbh

This is still such a great song. 2004 in general was such a monumental year for pop.

Jessica was technically the better singer but I always felt Ashlee had the stronger material.

I was checking out of a hotel one day last year and the lobby area was blasting this song. This song was always kind of meh to me but something about hearing it in that hotel immediately made me download it. I know this sounds crazy but have you ever heard a song that you were always meh on in a completely different environment and it sounds different and better? 🤓
