Olivia Rodrigo talks about shooting ‘drop dead’ at the Palace of Versailles: “I was sitting there being like no wonder the French had this Revolution. If I saw this, I’d be mad as hell too”

    1. I get what she’s saying, albeit she’s never been poor but she’s not a billionaire and has stood up for women’s reproductive rights. However, economists have argued that there’s more inequality now than during that era. You don’t have to lay in the Palace of Versailles to know why people were mad then or now.

It’s like the nobility saying “ya I get where the peasants are coming from, must really suck to be one of them”

Always a little bit annoying when the rich try to hello fellow kids the rest of us

Why’re people pressed about this…..? Learning about the French Revolution in a classroom gives you a very different perspective than seeing Versailles, it makes total sense that being in the palace would really hammer home why the revolution happened.

She’s rich but definitely not Versailles rich. Also she’s not a political leader like the monarchy, regular rich people and rich people who are supposed to be taking care of you but aren’t are a bit different

Ya’ll are being so weird about this. Very non controversial nothing burger statement

    6. Obama used to say a similar thing about visiting places in Europe that had a lot more impressive buildings than anything we have here in the US. Like they’re amazing, but you can see why the revolutions against the monarchy in Russia and France in particular were so bloody.

After the Vulture’s article about clipping last week, this is the exact kind of social media ragebait that they use to push people into their own thought bubbles. It’s at work in this thread. I’m going to bet 90% of the users are not gonna be interested in watching this entire interview in order to form an opinion about her.

Reminder, you’re closer to Olivia’s net worth than she is to any of the oligarchs that you’re pissed off about.

      JESUS fucking Christ.

Before you haters cry about this, you need to educate yourselves on the French Revolution. Y’all seem to think it was exclusively poors vs wealthy

There were wealthy revolutionaries. Their monetary contributions and positions in society allowed them to help educate* and rally the working class

Were we to do as the French did, you all know which side Olivia would be on

    10. I recently visited the palace of Versailles and had the same experience – pictures can never do a place like that any justice. Vatican City too. Chatsworth House. Yes, they’re beautiful but it’s also frankly sickening to be around priceless wealth like that.

Many comments in this post are reductive. Pop star wealth is incomparable to the kind of wealth that builds places like the palace of Versailles. Like can we please explore these incredibly complex topics with just an ounce of nuance 😭

This website’s class politics get stupider every day. I am BEGGING yall to learn something, anything about wealth and class that isn’t “eat the rich”
