The album would go on to sell 1 million copies in its first week, making her only the fifth female artist to do so at the time. It went No.1 in multiple countries including Japan, Australia, the U.K. and more. It stayed No. 1 for six consecutive weeks.

Born This Way was nominated for countless awards, including 3 Grammy nominations for Best Pop Album, Album of the Year, and Best Pop Solo Performance. It was her third consecutive Grammy nomination for album of the year. It won 2 VMAs, the People’s Choice Award, 4 MTV Europe Music Awards, Album of The Year at the Japan Gold Disc Awards. Her documentary “Lady Gaga: Inside the Outside” would even win an award for Outstanding Documentary.

5 singles were released including the title track “Born This Way” “Judas” “You and I” “Marry the Night” and “The Edge of Glory.” In 2022, the song “Bloody Mary” went viral and arguably became a sixth single more than 11 years later.

    1. Lives were changed. I dare you to listen to Electric Chapel, Government Hooker, Bloody Mary and/or Heavy Metal Lover without transcending to a higher plane of existence.

As a certified Little Monster back in those days (I used to post regularly on littlemonsters.com and the gagadaily forum if that gives any indication), this era was soooo much fun with so many phenomenal live performances. Radio 1’s Big Weekend was potentially my favourite – I remember watching it live in awe 😭

This was also the time that the tide really started to turn on her tho with Madonna copycat allegations and people becoming tired with her antics. It really set the scene for the crashout and poor reception of the ARTPOP era.

It’s been a while since I’ve listened to the album in full so thanks for the prompt to do so OP 🫶🏻

As someone that practically lived and breathed The Fame and The Fame Monster, this album was such a shock to me. It wasn’t the direction I wanted or expected from her at all. I was massively disappointed in it to be honest. The album art was and is to this day some of the worst *ever*.

But also I just didn’t enjoy the music. It’s grown on me a little more over the years but I’ll never be a fan of this album. Or Artpop. Or Joanne. I had to wait 9 years for Chromatica to enjoy her music again!

The Edge of Glory was so overplayed here in the UK it was like a torture device. I think Marry the Night was the best song on the album. I enjoyed Hair and Bloody Mary too, but nothing else.

    3. Born This Way wasn’t just an album release, it felt like Lady Gaga legally took over pop culture for two straight years. Nobody committed harder to an era than her.

I miss her music videos too, like watching a mini movie.

    5. The Fame/The Fame Monster, Born This Way, Artpop is the greatest 3-album run and is so authentically Gaga
