Canadians really think they’re hot shit when they are also a colonial state just like the rest of north America. they are just as racist as the us they just dont like admitting it.

LOVE to hear this narrative about Canada. Americans in my experience so often have such a flattened notion of Canada’s history and role in the world; at best, there’s an understanding that Canada also perpetrated genocide against indigenous nations. It is much more complicated than that and I appreciate her unpacking some of that!

    3. I’m 32 and my dad went to a residential school as a kid, so that stuff happened kinda recently. They broke his arm while he was there

my Indigenous relatives north of the border know this to be true. canada is a deeply colonial and racist state, she’s just saying it like it is. good on her for speaking it.

I’m getting that impression now that in reality, the fascism happening in the US government *could* be stopped by other nations, but they’re too scared to be cut off from the goods and services offered to them.

    6. As an American I’m glad to hear this. We need more pressure on other governments to hold ours accountable. Some of us here are doing what we can, but international help is appreciated.

glad more people are talking about this. as a very left leaning person in the US, it boils my blood to see canadians on the internet act like they have nothing bad in their country. just because our shit is out there for everyone to see right now doesn’t mean you don’t have your fair share of problems…

It’s really good to see a mainstream actor like this openly criticising social-chauvinsim in their country.

Canada is a major imperialist power. It must necessarily be violent in order to maintain its global economic position. People can’t ignore that just because the US is relatively worse.

    9. Ask the land defenders trying to stop pipelines being built across their land if Canada is ‘peaceful’.

Fellow pissed off hoser here. It’s nice to see someone in the entertainment industry become a dual citizen and (a) not lose sight of their heritage in all of its messiness; and (b) still be tuned in to the inner machinations of Ottawa.

      SPEAK ON IT TATIANA

Geniunly makes me proud to be from the same province.

The indiginious people if Sask have faced the violence of colonialism more then most, and continues to be VERY racist. There is so much wrong with where we are from, but it will only change if people speak up.

I hope she knows when She-Hulk came out, a homeless drop in in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan was watching it daily. She was loved, and when people heard she was from the province they were so proud.

      And free Palestine

I didn’t know Tatiana Maslany was Canadian! I am also Canadian and 100% support!

    13. She’s so fucking cool. I really hope she doesn’t get shut out of hollywood.

    14. I saw her in Orphan Black many years ago and I thought she was an incredible actress who was being ignored.

And now I know why. Because she speaks her mind and she speaks eloquently. I’m pretty sure she was one of the first actors to be blacklisted for speaking out against the genocide of Palestine.

I live in Alabama so anywhere would be better than here, but she makes a very good point because imperialism and capitalism is still prevalent within Canada because they are still part of the western world where minorities are oppressed for means of profit and land grab.
