I think it’s easy to be judgemental about this, and Russell Crowe does have a history, but I wonder how many times he’s dealt with this situation for this to be his starting position? If it was just fans it would be one thing, but the autograph sellers can be aggressive.

He knows where all those autographs go, and it’s not on walls as cherished memories.

These aren’t fans, at least most of them aren’t. They’re autograph hunters waving around their freshly purchased memorabilia and the moment they get home it’s on Ebay; clutching their cameras to film the encounter in case it goes wrong and they make some money selling it to TMZ or getting clout.

I’m ok with this communication between stars and fans. He gets his space while the fans get his autograph. I see a win-win situation here. The only thing is he could be a little nicer about it.

I don’t know anything about him but my immediate thought was he must have kids because this is exactly how you lay down the law 😂

      “Explodes?” Where???

I didn’t see anybody “exploding,” i saw a celebrity setting a reasonable boundary with fans. I fucking hate TMZ they are a cancerous mole on the ass of humanity.

    6. “EXPLODES” please, more like he explained that he will sign autographs as long as people respect his space. I hate when tabloids try to make something bigger than it is.

    7. I have no issues at all with establishing physical boundaries.

That said, the idea of waiting for an autograph from him makes me laugh bc i just know he gives the laziest signature in the world

Now y‘all being like “fair” “respect” keep that attitude when female celebrities do the same

Even with it being Crowe, I feel like only an asshole could have a problem with a celebrity advocating for themself like this. It’s so basic.

this is how it should be with any celeb who graces these people with attention. I feel bad for actual fans who just want a cool keepsake from someone they admire since this shit is being overtaken by reselling leeches. celebs need to set clear boundaries and keep them

This is totally acceptable behavior. I’m not endorsing Crowe by any means, but this particular moment was fine. He’s setting a clear, spiky boundary which is perfectly acceptable communication.

Also, as a note with regards to the “fan” asking if he could “add Maximus,” this person was clearly a reseller. No fan of Crowe *needs* him to point out that he did indeed play Maximus, one of the most iconic roles of his career. If you get to this point with merch in tow, you are either a mega fan (relatively rare) or a relentless reseller (extremely common). Crowe is providing the free service of autographing memorabilia, not ensuring maximum ROI for your secondhand merch.

“Explodes” = calm + normal volume. It’s clickbait title, and you know, it worked. I watched it.

The autograph seekers are semi-pro sellers getting them in bulk just to sell. The celebs know this. If there are guards at a given location/for a given organization, they see the same autograph hounds at every event, for every celebrity and these people are indiscriminate. Hell, if someone appears to be famous they’ll react almost the same as if it’s a super high profile A-lister. They tend to see the same guys everywhere they go in a given city/region. It’s a racket. They tolerate it. No reason to pretend they’re real fans.

Shame on OP for titling it like that, why you trying to throw bad optics on the guy for a normal behavior?
