THIS IS A REPOST SINCE I DELETED MY PREVIOUS POST BC I POSTED AN INCORRECT PICTURE OF WILLIAM HAINES AND JIMMIE SHIELDS. I'VE CORRECTED THAT.
First of all, these are all confirmed by prominent biographers and in many cases the actors themselves. I'm not making anything up here. But for Pride Month, here are some classic, old-Hollywood LGBT couples:
- Claudette Colbert and Helen O'Hagan. O'Hagan was listed as Colbert's "companion" when Colbert passed away, and Colbert left her estate to her. And this is my time to plug It Happened One Night, the alpha and omega of rom-coms.
- Anthony Perkins and Tab Hunter – they were an item for several years. It ended when Perkins politicked for a role Hunter had wanted. Perkins ended up going to conversion therapy and marrying before dying of AIDS. Hunter lived a happy life with his husband and died in 2018, handsome as ever.
- Cary Grant and Randolph Scott – lived together for 12 years, actually demanded (rare in those days) that they'd always travel in the same hotel room and do interviews together. Remained very close. Grant married 5 different times. Look at the heart eyes in this photo! They died months apart in what we now recognize as the "widow syndrome." Grant said later in life "“Have you ever heard of gravity collapse? Some people call it love at first sight? This was the first time I’d felt it for anyone.”
- William Haines and Jimmie Shields – both walked away from the movie industry and became interior decorators. Joan Crawford called them the "happiest married couple." When William died, Jimmie actually unalived himself.
- Alla Nazimova and Glesca Marshall. They were fairly open for their time, and coined the Hollywood lesbian community "the sewing circle."
- Raymond Burr and Roberto Benevides. They met on the set of Perry Mason and were together until Burr's death.
- Montgomery Clift and Jerome Robbins – no pictures exist of them, but their relationship has been confirmed by several biographers, and Clift inspired Jerome Robbins' West Side Story.
- Greta Garbo and Mercedes de Acosta. There romance was off and on for many years, but ended in 1960 when de Acosta wrote and autobiography and sold some of her letters which documented her affair with Garbo. In this picture I am so jealous of how perfect Garbo's hair looks.

Love them all.
This is Tab Hunter when he was old, kind of confirming my suspicion that if you’re gorgeous when you’re young, when you’re old your bone structure will never fail you:

Nancy Reagan’s godmother was a lesbian?
I still remember when my grandma gave me the 🤫 he likes *men* hush hush aside when we were watching Perry Mason when I was young.
I was a teenager in the 90s and so this was a long time ago, but I remembered that my grandma just sort of mentioned it as sort of like this is an open secret sort of thing, but it was never hate or anything. (Which is good cause I’m the bisexual of the family. )
Cary Grant and Randolph Scott really do have major heart eyes! This is what soul mates look like.
