I see at least 15 – 20 Broadway shows a years, and I don’t remember ever seeing a person on their phone. Occasionally someone will try to sneak in a photo every few shows but even that security will come around and shut them down really quick.

Post Covid audiences in general have been terrible. I saw Moulin Rouge in Sydney a few years ago and the person next was on their phone looking up recipes the whole time. They got told off by the usher but then promptly pulled the phone out again afterwards.
They then had to nerve to comment after the show to their companion that they didn’t understand the plot 🙄

Audiences have been really shitty the last few years. It’s not like we just stopped pretending in the social contract. I don’t go to events like this, but it’s been annoying as hell to go to the movies for one reason or the other.

I just went to a Jack White concert. We got an email a few days before that there would be no phones allowed. His team brought in lock bags where we had to put our phones inside and they were unlocked when we left. This seems like the obvious answer since it’s become such a problem for Broadway shows.
