It’s not that I don’t forgive her. Who am I to forgive?

It’s that it told us a lot about what she deems acceptable and what she will tolerate and support. I just know better now.

MAGA AND a cop? She couldn’t find a MAGA dentist?

It was a classic story of, he was cute and she was horny! lol

She’s not dumb. She probably knew the guy was MAGA three days into the relationship tops. And she looked the other way.

    4. I can’t speak too strongly on Laverne because I don’t really know her experience, but I do think this exemplifies how willing, consciously or otherwise, women can be to keep something on its tracks. There’s a belief that women are glue or psychologists or something and that they should help men. There’s also a point to be made about wanting so badly to be accepted by a certain group of people that you will overlook things that are actively harmful to you. A belief that proximity to white and conservative people could be protective.

Why do bigoted people want to date the people they are prejudiced against? I seriously don’t get it. Why would a MAGA voter choose to date a transgender person? It makes no sense to me.

    6. Three and a half years is a *long* time to betray yourself with someone who doesn’t see you as human.

I wish her the best in love going forward.

3 and a half YEARS in a relationship…I hope it was worth it.

      “…I betrayed myself…”

      Yeah, no shit.

Who am I but I hope she learns to love herself enough to see what she is doing.

She is dating someone who is actively voting against her rights and supporting a man who has threatened to kill people in groups that support Trans people “too much”. I don’t think it is for us to forgive her, but her community might have some things to say about it.

On a personal note, as the mother of a Trans son, it does change how I look at her.

I’m honestly tired of us dogging women who fell into the wrong hands….the exact same hands so many of us have fallen into..especially when they are explicitly admitting they chose wrong and have done better. We need more stories about the unlearning and the evolution, not just endless punishment and self-righteous dismissal for the mistake. She deserves a lot more compassion than what people are giving her here

    11. It’s just crazy to be fighting for rights for people only to see them gleefully thrown away.

    12. I remember when she tried to blame black women for transphobia in the black community, yet here she go

Some black/queer people are definitely livid. She is privileged and therefore, dating a MAGA cop does not affect her the way that maga and police affect the rest of us.

Especially since she only got where she is manly because of the fans of those communities.

    14. Did Laverne know he was a cop when she first met him? And, if she didn’t, how long before she *did* know? The same question about him being MAGA? When did she find out?

I’m not mad at her, more confused. I don’t want to go to lunch with a MAGA, let alone have s*x with one.

I feel bad that her self worth is so low she would date someone who doesn’t want her to have any rights.

I relate to this in an entirely different set of circumstances. The only similarity is, this person treated me basically perfectly (in retrospect, love bombing) and I was in too deep (due to love bombing) that when they revealed something egregious (they they probably know was egregious, in her case him being a Republican cop, in my case it was that he was married) but the emotional dependency has already been built and has completely shaped the lens you view him through. His flaws become things he hasn’t worked on *yet*, because in your head this beautiful person who treats you so well just has to be educated because he has the empathy and blah blah blah.

I am not black and I’m cis so I cannot speak for members of either community. But I do get how someone can be duped by someone like this.
