Anthony Fantano on Olivia Rodrigo/Taylor Swift: “I feel like when it comes to Olivia, Taylor’s almost taking a Nicki Minaj type approach. The way that Nicki is sort of like very confrontational & directly against anybody of this new generation who’s replacing her in terms of importance & relevancy.”
I thought Taylor was more like “You can share the space but never forget your place” she’s obviously far more subtle than Nicki but in the beginning I always felt Nicki didn’t mind but they had to always make sure everyone knew she was “Queen” .

Good that Fantano is saying this, mainly because I think he’s one of the only people whose life Swifties can’t ruin

insecure losers who’ve made their whole self worth dependent on being no.1, regardless of whether you’re actually doing something good/useful, will suddenly crumble when that no.1 spot is taken away, even more so when that someone is actually much better than you.

I have to agree. Taylor seems unable to let new artists bloom or she’s at least afraid of them.

The crazy irony is Taylor’s new album has SO many stolen melodies as well.

He is right. Also if you notice, the people in her circle (who’s music she praises) have a really mediocre discography (mid music has its place too before you come attacking me) think: sombr, Camila cabello , Selena Gomez I could go on.
When she feels threatened, she doesn’t like them and then whatever is happening here happens.
I really dislike TS. Anyways her music is all shit now since Folklore and Evermore so Im not crying.

the uplifting of sombr is so indicative of this because huh??

The difference is approach. TS is passive aggressive and petty. She doesn’t confront OR directly but will do just about everything in her power to stymie her. Nicki is at least direct and aggressively lets her thoughts known no matter how vile they are. I respect Nicki more honestly because at least shes honest.

Taylor’s been riding high on borrowed time, given the decreasing quality of her work in the past 5 years.
So, if theres a fall from grace im rooting for, count this as one thats long overdue.
In my opinion.

Taylor Swift always has a certain insecurity it feels like with her music, between the variants to game the system, blocking new artists, etc etc.
It feels like even after 20 years at the top, she can *never* just let her music speak for itself and stand on it’s own merits.

I’ve been saying this for years. I keep up with rap girl drama and there are honestly so many similarities in the way these two treat new artists. Nicki, like Taylor, is (or was) also very “welcoming” to new rap girls until they show a little too much potential. She doesn’t mind giving a shout out or a feature when she thinks the artist is going to be a one-hit or two-hit wonder. When they show that they might be the new queen of rap? She starts a problems every single time.

I would love to know if Taylor Swift actually regrets this now that it’s still coming up years later or if she still thinks it was the right move. I know it’s not affecting her own fanbase or streaming numbers, but I do think her reputation took a hit and doesn’t seem to have bounced back from it. It’s not like she actually needed any of the money shes getting from Olivia’s song.
I’m sure we’ll never know as she’ll never talk on it.

i finally see why taylor’s so insecure – olivia’s songs are much better than anything taylor could ever produce. life of a showgirl is a joke compared to this

I am old. I am also a major audiophile. Love love love all kinds of music.
Sour was a solid record from start to finish and I was not the target audience by any means.
Personally i would take Olivia and Adele over Taylor.
And Taylor is a talented. I love a few of her songs. I find her bland. Solid song writer, good musician and has a good voice. It just is bland to me.

If she released something once at the same time, oaky it’s fine. But the most recent seems like a purposeful decision.
Why didn’t she release the Toy Story variants on, idk, the movie release date?

Taylor is such a backhanded bully. She forced Olivia to give her writing credits for just the vibe of the song being similar. Yet Cruel Summer was itself a direct copy of the chorus in Loona’s Kpop song. And then to top it all off, Taylor made a copycat song of Olivia’s “get him back!” (Imginnagetyouback) just to rub it in that she could do whatever she wanted.
And now she’s pulling the same bs with copying the title from Gracie Abrams’ song (i knew it i know you)

One of my biggest irritations is what he mentioned about Swifties and their narrative that she didn’t know. Anytime there’s a critique related to Taylor’s actions, it’s always “someone else on her team”. Like cmon.
I’d have a lot more respect for her role here if she stood 10 toes on business. I wouldn’t agree with it, but I’m tired of the lack of acknowledgement of her responsibility. She’s turning 37 in a few months like can we hold her accountable at some point lol
