    1. Fuck, I hate amazon. I had Ring before Amazon bought it and ruined it. I need to prioritize replacing my devices. Anyone have any solid recs?

    2. The whole “let’s find lost dogs” thing was obviously a thinly veiled attempt to gain unrestricted access to ring devices for Amazon to use however they please. I opted out immediately

If my kid got kidnapped I would have zero problem with them using this tech to find her

    4. it’s kind of wild a single company can create a nationwide dragnet because they’re mad they have to occasionally refund misdelivered packages

    5. I don’t trust any doorbell camera. If someone wants to break into your home and/or steal your shit, it’s not going to stop them.

    6. Last year police in my area somehow used my mother’s Ring doorbell to find a man who had damaged a police car.

No permission from anyone and they even thanked us as if we gave them the footage.

    7. Just a reminder, unless you are storing your home surveillance locally, every single one of these snitch apps will do the same thing

This constantly occurs to me when I walk my dog because it feels like every other house has one of these stupid cameras.

Time to cover our faces everywhere we go… gee. That won’t be bad for the crime rates will it. Fucks sake.

It’s crazy how surveilled we are and it hasn’t even actually solved crime.

    11. Unrelated: I appreciate that Ronan’s used his sphere of influence to amplify really important messages like this one. I know he’s also won a Pullitzer for reporting Harvey Weinstein’s crimes

Rat on your neighbors and if you don’t we’re gonna force you to anyway!

My mom’s ex husband was a county lieutenant. After their divorce he ran her plates to find out where we moved. Take that as you will.

It’s all very tiring. Statically, wide-surveillence doesn’t lower crime and had a rather insignificant impact on preventing violent crime.

Plenty of studies support this. We just have to look at the UK, which is the definition of a surveillance state, and it took 10 years to find the Putney Pusher (millionaire banker and grandson of a royal) and only a few months to find and start prosecuting those who took part in the 2011 London riots, both using extensive CCTV.

This is pure surveillance for surveillance sake, it will only hurt the most vulnerable of society and be used as a tool to persecute others.

    15. Just like Ai development, this is innevitable. The best we can hope is that countries congresses legislate to control the impact of this. The US can’t expect that soon, as Trump and Jeff bezos are buddies, but at some point regulations will have to come because these techs will continue to become more powerful

I believe this topic is serious and deserves attention, but I can’t get over how cute Ronan Farrow is. Woody can’t be his dad; it has to be Sinatra!Am I shallow? Yes, I guess I am. 🤔☹️
