Steven Spielberg has rejected Emily Blunt’s claim that he wanted to use artificial intelligence in his new film Disclosure Day.

In the extraterrestrial thriller, released in cinemas last week, Blunt plays a weather presenter who suddenly begins speaking in a strange alien language.

During the film’s press tour, the actress revealed that she refused Spielberg’s offer to use AI, saying: “He said, ‘You know, we could do it with AI, or you could do it’. And I was like, ‘I feel confident I can make some weird noises’.”

However, the three-time Oscar-winning filmmaker disputed the claims, saying: “I would never use AI. I would never have made the choice, even if Emily was unable to produce the sounds that she did produce, by the way, organically – I would never have used AI.’

Actors make up things on press tours to get headlines, usually they aren’t corrected since it isn’t a big deal and just an anecdote of some kind, I think that’s what happened here. There have been so many stories of actors claiming to do things on the fly despite the multiple camera angles telling a different story, this seemed like her trying to be impressive but it backfired. That would have been a really odd choice to use Ai for sounds rather than using a Foley artist or adjusting the noises in post.

    3. He’s the worlds most famous director, famously really hands on, has definitely had his work illegally used to train AI, and had all the money to make his movie. Unless this is a slip of the tongue, ie he said AI when he should have said “we can add it in post” I’m siding with Spielberg.
