Tom Holland spent his entire break from Spider-Man scrolling fan forums and social media — then walked into the writers’ room with their answers. It’s the first time he’s shaped the story before writing began.

    1. Hi Tom, I understand the energy, but that’s actually the opposite of what I want from a writer.

This feels like how you end up designing that car Homer created in The Simpsons

Yes! I don’t understand why every writer doesn’t do this.

Imagine the stranger things finale, if they had actually looked up some videos on questions still unanswered or fan theories. They were all much better than the final show imo

I love that he’s dedicated to what the fans want and now has the power to influence the story.

Look I’m not saying an actor can’t have his opinion on what happens in the story, but has he shown any talent for writing.

It’s very easy for someone to read fanfic/forums and think they can make a great movie but some writing experience would probably be useful

    6. But he says AI has no soul…

What does he think AI does to learn how to write?

*Scrolling fan forums and social media*

They need to be wayyyyy more worried about AI than they are.

“Reddit the Movie 2 – Return of Reddit” It would be very cool to include a character of the Reddit mascot as well? Maybe he could help Spider-Man in his time if need, maybe he could offer him a hand in his times of trouble. Tom, if you’re reading this, make it happen!!

    8. “then walked into the writers’ room with their answers”. Answers to what?

I swear some redditors go out of their way to make nonsense titles…

    9. I actually hate when shows or franchises cater to what the fans want too much. You can always tell when writers start paying attention to what’s being said online and it feels way less authentic in my opinion.

I am now interested to see what the reactions will be. Nothing good happens when you listen to fans, because half of them don’t know what they want and the other half tell you they want a completely different thing from what they actually, but all of them have opinions, and most of those opinions would make for a shit movie.

Alot comments here that seem to show very few of you actually are in the MCU fandom.

Many many fans were tired of multiverse spiderman (literally 3 and soon to be 4 movies of that and a series is enough).

Many were tired of iron man jr.

      Many fans wanted:
      1. Street level spiderman again
      2. Depressed broke relatable spider man
      3. Him fighting for his life but him interacting with actual street level heroes like big pun (frank not rapper) or at least characters he’s known for interacting with.

All he’s saying is that he wanted to give some of these basic elements before it became another nostalgia fest.

I am glad he did it, bc as good as the first three were, I have a feeling this will be leagues better.

    12. This is for the audience to hear. I’m sure he had some input. But those professional writers ain’t gonna yield to a bunch of Redditors.

I did not know he was from London. Why do they always have better Western accents than us ?

    14. Strikes me less like “lets give the fans everything they want” and more “lets see if the fans have any actually good ideas we can use”.

      But maybe im too generous
