    1. Has to be satire or ragebait? No way they didn’t notice the double handlebars. It’s an advertisement and people are falling for it

As a long time graphic designer in retail, I’d say there’s a high probability the bike company provided REI with that image. And as part of their partnership REI promotes their bikes on social a certain amount. And someone at REI said “that’s the image you wanna use Van Rysel? Sure, whatever” and posted it.

I mean REI is union busting so they still kinda suck.

any time a company uses AI for their ads it just makes me think they’re too broke to afford real designers

it also makes me suspicious they’re cutting corners & cheaping out elsewhere, not just on their ads

As a photographer, what irks me is that this is such a bad photo. You can hire a talented kid right out of college to create a more compelling photo. A seasoned professional Would have made an AMAZING photo.

But no….they’re replacing us with something that costs just as much and produces mediocre results.

would it have really cost that much to take a bike to a park and take a few photos 🙄 tbh this is just lazy.

It’s already been pulled from their feed! I was pumped for the comments.

Oh no! How the mighty have fallen! I knew the marketing team, back in the day, wow, they’ll do anything to increase their shareholder value by cutting marketing on top of all the other job cuts and union busting. Good thing I canceled my membership years ago.

I’ve been boycotting REI for almost two years now. Two reasons: 1- union busting; 2- their board of directors endorsed the Trump pick for Secretary of the Interior, Doug Burgum, a man who is trying to sell off our public lands to oil and gas companies. I used to shop there a lot and now not at all. This AI thing is dumb but there are real solid reasons to not support REI at this point.
