On one hand, I love that she’s defying gender norms and ageism. On the other, she’s a multimillionaire married to another multimillionaire with access to the best trainers, nutrition and technology. This isn’t feasible for the average person.

If any of her mates could give her a decent game at home, Serena would be on a yacht sipping mimosas right now.

Had to fly to London to get a workout.

    3. Tennis Legend

When most professional female tennis players drop off at age 28, Serena still is a top player at 44. Legendary

    4. Amazing. A brilliant chance for her children to see their mum play Wimbledon in real life, rather than on a screen!

She’s great to watch, and if she can still play well, good for her! She should play as long as she wants to.

    6. Its giving Tom Brady.

Just go out on a high and play some casual tennis games at home. Wasting a wildcard on Serena who isn’t match fit, was struggling to make returns in her recent double games and most likely won’t make it past R1 is a crazy move.

I really do have respect for Serena and all she has done for the sport. She is a rolemodel for so many and rightly so. Her retirement was fitting and came at the right time.

I know she says she has nothing to lose which is true and this match will certainly be a spectacle and I will be tuning in but I can’t help but feel she has stolen a wildcard from a player on tour who is more deserving. The integrity of the sport is constantly called into question and letting a retired player enter a GrandSlam is extremely unfair, regardless of her status.

I can’t imagine retiring from a sport I dedicated my entire life to and not being bored as hell so I get it.

The cynical side of me knows this is also some ad for the GLP-1 her and husband are involved in but the other side of me is excited whenever Serena or Venus step on the court.

I’m not into tennis as much as I once was, but has she played many matches recently or is this just stealing some up and comer’s spot?

Reminds me slightly of Carrie Soto Is Back but she was considered geriatric at 37 😄but of course Serena would breeze back in at 44!!

    10. I think some people, like Brady, just can’t quit the sport. It’s been such a big part of their life where they’ve been the pinnacle thst I don’t think they can imagine a world without doing it.

Good for her. I’m 46 and my right elbow has ached since I slept on it funny three months ago. And don’t even get me started on my shoulder

Okay I understand she’s the GOAT of tennis but given how many times she’s faced many athletes inspired by her, has she considered also coaching?

It’ll be awesome to see her mentor young athletes.

    13. Imagine qualifying for Wimbledon and being excited and then you draw Serena Williams in the 1st round. Like, she isn’t going to win but for one round this is wild.
