      > Host Sam Sanders then asked Jones if she was ok with that type of portrayal. Jones explained that she didn’t fight back because “she wanted to be on the show,” and in the moment, “didn’t think that that was happening until it kept happening.”

      I saw her do stand-up before she was on SNL and during and her entire persona on stage was aggressive, screaming, angry woman. She crafted that persona herself, so it seems weird to shift that blame now.

      SNL is a show trying to make the best product possible / IMO part of that is playing to a cast members stengths to make every segment as entertaining as possible / I’ve seen Leslie Jones on SNL, stand up, interviews etc and she almost always plays into these roles she’s describing in interview (because they are her strong suit/what she is known for and what people want to see out of her) … I feel her for the comments and not being giving opportunities to evolve as a performer … but … I don’t think her lack of range is on SNL .. if you got signed to shoot 3 pointers and play guard, don’t be salty when the team asks you to shoot 3 pointers and play guard

      I mean… maybe if she didn’t screw up her lines that often they would’ve given her more varied, complex roles? Like almost every sketch I see of her she flubs her lines or misses her cue in some way

      Isn’t that what her comedy is? She’s literally like that in everything, even her standup.

      I feel bad for her. I know SNL is a fast-paced show but she should have been able to try out different roles rather than being type cast as the angry Black woman. Bowen Yang reported similar issues with him being type cast as stereotypical gay man.

      Some of these comments here are interesting… Maybe her point was that she wanted a chance to do something different on a show that creates all kinds of different characters and sketches for the actors to play. Sometimes people fall into a “type” and run with it because it helps them get ahead and establish themselves in the business. It doesn’t mean that’s all they can or want to do.

      I don’t think of Leslie Jones as having a huge range. I just fucking love what she does with the range she has.

      Well, she was not very good with remembering her lines and hitting her marks in other regular sketches.
