Olivia Cooke on the small age gap between and the actors who play her sons on House of the Dragon: “Is this just the industry? It’s just Hollywood, they don’t wanna see women age? It’s a big leap for the audience to make… or maybe I’m just a fantastic actor.”

I 100% agree with the general sentiment, but she’s the same age as her character lol
I mean sure, to all of it. Maybe it is Hollywood, but also… the boys are such excellent CHILDREN and she’s so excellent at seeming much older in spirit. I really haven’t had a problem seeing her as their mother, they’re all incredible actors and they’ve managed these characters well.
Honestly I think the role she been cast in is age appropriate as she is supposed to be this young mom. So for her to look just slightly older or even the same age as her adult son is appropriate.
I get that it’s weird (even though it’s been common in the past), but I genuinely think all the actors on the show are so good, I couldn’t imagine them being replaced by other actors just to make up for their ages.
For context, she is 32. The actors that play her sons are 31 and 29. I totally get what she’s saying and also she started playing the mother of adult children at 28.
She’s around the right age actually the issue is that the children’s actors are too old
I think in their case, it’s intentional to keep them visually close in age if to constantly negotiate how much power Alicent thinks she has vs how much power she actually has over her boys.
That shirt is hilarious
