      Serving 16, 20 separately on the line, at least there’s that to keep him occupied. The jury must be deadlocked over something specific, while I assume being mindful of his other legal hold ups. He’ll stay locked up for life most likely either way.

      in other words the rich guy was able to play out every legal avenue the courts allow for. So long as one has the money to spend on lawyers etc, they can tie everything up and defeat it in a long slow agonizing process normal people can’t withstand. The justice system is pay to play, with the richest among us able to game the system with constant appeals, constant legal loopholes, constantly revisiting one thing or another, postponing for every possible legal reason, counter suing and waiting for those long processes to proceed and play out, whatever mechanism that could possibly exist, that it takes a law degree to understand, they can afford to pay lawyers to pursue it all. People will look you square in the face and say that’s the way it should be, but have no guts to acknowledge the discrepancy in how individuals get treated based on their wealth and ability to engage legally.

      Maybe someday some advanced society will fully recognize all the ways in which humans are _predictably shitty_ and will fully safeguard the whole from the harm of the few, but we are not there.

      That definitely sucks, but for anyone worried, he’s not getting out of prison. He’s still serving 16 years for another rape and sexual assault.
