That’s honestly a cute way to frame it that isn’t just picking a fight. And oof, those rounded “oh” sounds make me blush. Guess I just was in Manitoba at an impressionable age.

The 18 month mat leave pays like shit and then you get strapped with impossible to find child care afterwards

God forbid someone shed light that mat leave in Canada isn’t as great as Simu is making it seem on his post here. I’ll remember to never question him again your presence. All hail Simu, genius man who says and does no wrong

Idk if our healthcare system is anything to envy but I wouldn’t replace it with what the US has

    4. I literally heard from a US colleague that his wife was sidelined in the company after taking maternity leave of a meagre 2-3 months and now stays at home to take care of their kids.

I’m sure there are laws for this stuff but Americans can comment how enforceable they are but this is what I heard.

    5. Look, Canadian health care isn’t perfect, I doubt any country’s health care will ever be… but it’s pretty damn good. I’ve had open heart surgery, and that came with a lot of prep. None of it cost a dime.

Wait, I chose to pay for anaesthesia to get my wisdom teeth out, but that whole procedure was still covered anyway because it was deemed a medical necessity. That’s pretty sweet lol.

Health care? We have rolling ER closures and people are dying while waiting to be treated. Covid fucked everything up. EVERYTHING.

Canadian healthcare might not be perfect, but I’d take it over a lot of other country’s any day! Love Simu always repping Canada 🇨🇦

    8. The diversity of Canadian women is truly very “peak”, not to boast or seem conceited. Anyway, there’s an asterisk on the 18 month mat leave, given that there are factors like sharing the leave with the other parent and the restrictions on EI (employment insurance) benefits. Canada should be doing more, Quebec offers the most generous benefits but even Quebec would rank around 17th to 15th (out of 41 wealthy nations) in this [UNICEF report](https://www.unicef.ca/en/press-release/canada-ranks-middle-pack-family-friendly-policies-among-wealthy-countries). Being better than the States at a certain statistic isn’t much. Anyway, Canadian healthcare is amazing and should always be protected! Shout out Tommy Douglas.

I love him. And while I realize our healthcare is far from perfect…I’ll take it over having to pay hundreds over a simple doctor visit any day!

That first tweet ain’t wrong either! There’s a reason Toronto has been a favourite in the NBA for players of the visiting teams haha

Are we up to 18 months now?

That’s great IMO, it was only 6 months when my first kid was born and I was so happy when they extended it to a year in time for our second.

At my last job I worked with a lot of Americans and it was shameful how they had two weeks of maternity leave before coming back to work.

The universal healthcare allows women to buy stuff for self care and other things too lol
