      I’m biased here because on the one hand, I *hate* technology and especially AI, but OTOH, my ex-fiancée is blind and while dating her I ended up as a volunteer with the Canadian National Institute for the Blind. Through that role, which I’m still in, I’ve met numerous people who use Meta glasses as an accommodation, because the glasses can describe whatever you’re “looking” at/facing in great detail.

      I get that sighted people don’t benefit from them in the same way, but blindness is such a low incidence disability that, if these were developed and marketed exclusively or primarily to blind and partially sighted people, they’d be prohibitively expensive.

      I don’t want to sound insane so excuse me but data has truly surpassed the value of everything. it’s jarring to me how so many ppl went from worrying abt privacy to treating caneras + these bs AI bots everywhere as completely normal. i’m convinced we all died and are stuck in hell bc it’s relentless and im feeling so down abt it

      outside of these disgusting glasses, no matter what we do we’re constantly generating data that is then used to build increasingly powerful systems for surveillance and warfare. everytime we repost, like and comment, everytime we get outraged by anything. positive or negative no matter what it just gives the powers that be even more data and control. truly a dystopian nightmare

      i was working w/ someone the other day who was wearing meta glasses and i just assumed she wasn’t recording because she was on the phone- until i heard the other caller respond to something she hadn’t said out loud (saying which color of an item they preferred) and it was only then i realized it was a video call and i’d been on candid camera for a solid 20 minutes

      I was at SeaTac last week and tried to take a stealthy photo of a very sweet old couple playing cards at my gate with my Nintendo 3ds, and that was how I found out that there is no setting on the 3ds that stops it from making a loud shutter noise when you take a photo with it. I was embarrassed and deserved it entirely!

       A fuckin 10+ year old Nintendo product has better guardrails for creepy behavior in public than these piece of shit minority report glasses.

      So I work in healthcare. I had a patient and her partner in for an ultrasound. I did the whole scan which included an intimate examination. Her partner in the room the entire time. As I said goodbye to them both, I suddenly realised her partner was wearing META glasses. I was internally furious. Firstly, I have a legal right in my country to not be filmed at work without my consent and secondly I performed an intimate examination on his partner and presumably his glasses filmed the whole fucking thing. These damn things are awful.
