‘Hannah Montana’ Star Mitchel Musso Turned Down 20th Anniversary Special and Says It Should’ve Been a Reunion Episode Instead: ‘It Wasn’t the Right Thing’
> In the Disney+ special, Cyrus celebrated 20 years of “Hannah Montana,” shared a sweet moment on a replica of the set with her dad and co-star Billy Ray Cyrus and even performed three songs as Hannah. Musso, who was absent from both the telecast and the premiere event alongside his on-screen girlfriend Emily Osment, said he wishes the special was a reunion episode of “Hannah Montana.”
> “The kid in me was banking on it, like ‘I can’t wait for us to all be on set again,’” said the actor, who stepped away from Hollywood 10 years ago. “And it just didn’t work out that way.”
> Asked if he was offered a role in the anniversary special, Musso said, “Of course they asked me. But, like I said, it wasn’t presented correctly. … It’s too long of a wait to do it in a way that isn’t even close to, in my opinion, correct.”
> “They just did it differently, and it is what it is,” he added. “It wasn’t the right thing. And I was busy doing something that was more important. But it would have been way more important if it would have just been an episode, or a movie. Of course that would have been more important. That would have been everything. I would have dropped everything — eat, breathe, sleep it.” Musso said he could easily snap back into Oliver, but he would need a wig to honor the character’s mop top.

I think this was the way to do it, because reunion episodes and spin off movies are cheesy as fuck.

I’m glad it wasn’t a reunion episode but I would’ve loved something like the Fresh Prince or Friends reunions which were just the whole cast talking about their experiences

it would’ve been a better special if it was like the Friends or Harry Potter anniversary specials.

I know that they are easy to poke fun at but I do have quite a bit of sympathy for child actors. They have completely out of the ordinary childhoods where, especially on shows like Disney and Nickelodeon, they get praised for over the top and overdramatic acting styles and then, when the machines are done with them, they are stuck into “ordinary” adulthood with professional and social skills at odds with their peers. Sure, for those with responsible parents and management, I’m sure the money helps, but I can’t help but feel like “yeah, of course they’re weird.”

Girl, please. You were on a kids show 20 years ago and acting like you’re reuniting The Sopranos cast is embarrassing.

Love how everyone in here is making assumptions as to why he wasn’t happy with this setting and wanted more of a role etc.

Bro, just take the check and be happy they called.

I doubt Miley or Emily would have had the time to film an original thing. I think a lot of fans would have been happy with just a comic con reunion type interview

I completely agree, like why were such important characters not included?! Oliver was my favourite and there was nothing about him. It was just Hannah/Miley stuff only and then random guests that had nothing to do with the show?! I was disappointed.

I don’t think it should’ve been an episode, it just shouldn’t have been done in a way that mainly centered around Miley and her family. Hannah Montana was more than just a pop star, but an actual show. Just an odd choice not to include the characters that played a big part of that, even if she wanted to focus more on her character coming from being Hannah Montana.

I don’t know about this one, the whole thing in my opinion felt odd.
I agree it should’ve been a reunion with the cast, something similar to the *’Friends Reunion’* where they explored the set and talk about certain episodes and behind the scenes.
I’ll just say the ‘*HM Reunion’* wasn’t good and that’s understandable because she(Miley) made it happen last minute which Disney forgot and did this. Which is why everyone wasn’t available.
