Gracie Abrams acknowledges the privilege she had to pursue music as a nepo baby & addresses the constant online hate: “I have a suspicion that people who either enjoy or just spend their time that way on the internet, the likelihood of them not getting support elsewhere is quite high.”

I’m happy she’s honest about it. Most are in denial or just straight up ignore the truth

She’s not wrong 🤷‍♀️ Way too many are living their lives completely online.

Gracie Abrams being a nepo baby is actually secondary to my real complaint about her: the lifeless, nothing tunes.

    4. I get that people don’t like the NYT sometimes but I gotta say the video quality, cinematography, audio quality, etc of podcasts by NYT is pretty good.

    5. I didn’t even understand the hate she got until now. At least she’s honest about her nepo privilege but it doesn’t make her any more likable tbh.

I feel like I’m in the minority but I like some of her music. Not enough to buy tickets to her show, but enough not to change her songs when they come on the radio.

It feels like people are extra harsh on her (at least from what I see on Reddit) but aside from people not liking her music (fair music is subjective) she hasn’t done or said anything that should garner this ire?

    7. It’s not just a safety net though, it’s also immediate access to the highest calibre of musicians.

I am semi-pleased to say that, although I keep up with pop culture and know who she is and who her father is, I have never actually listened to her music.

If I were to give it a try so I can form my own opinion, is there a general consensus of “try this song, it’s her best (or least worst)” or “this song epitomizes how blah she is” or “listen to this one, this is her signature style, so if you only give one song a go, put this on?”

Or are her studio tracks highly edited, so you really have to watch her sing live to truly understand, “OH. This is (the dearth of) what’s going on here…”

LOL the only other thing I’ve heard about her songs is that one is about Dylan O’Brien?? After they allegedly hooked up and it didn’t end well?

      Good on Gracie.

It’s the ones who tell on themselves when they jump straight to the defensive and feel they have to justify getting a role or performing somewhere.

I honestly don’t care about that so long as you take advantage of the opportunity. That’s more or less how several industries work

The issue with nepos isn’t actually so much the nepotism as it is the immense privilege they have that others don’t. Don’t be defensive and say you’re an actor and earned roles just like anyone else because you’ve had 12 years of acting classes

i think culture has gotten worse with the rise of nepo babies and the decrease in merit playing a role in art! i liked when the only nepo babies were liza minelli and nicholas cage!

    11. This clip sounds like she’s giving one of those “I acknowledge I have privilege, and I used it to help me become successful”. This seems to be the new go-to response for all nepos because ppl stopped falling for the “I worked hard for my success” BS

While there are nepo babies who have both privledge and talent, there are also those who have every resource in the world and zero ounce of talent. Gracie Abrams falls in the latter.

    12. She’s so pretty she should’ve gone into modeling instead of singing, dear god anything but her singing

My Gracie Abrams face blindness continues. I wouldn’t have recognized her. She really looks every time I see her.

I like her and I’ve been excited for her album after first hearing Hit the Wall. She said all the right things and people are still hating. Like she said, lot of ya’ll internet people talking shit are probably not getting the support you need in real life, I would probably heed the nepo’s advice on that.

I wish she would add some pizzazz to the hair. Go full final fantasy… give us something

There should be a way to apply to be a nepo baby for celebrities you have no relation to

It doesn’t bother me that she’s a nepo kid.. I just think her music sucks and she can’t sing 🤷‍♀️

I feel like I’m crazy because she was really creepy towards an underage Finn Wolfhard and everyone conveniently forgets to mention that 🫠🫠🫠🫠

    19. The connections she had are a lot more advantageous than just being rich, I would think. She had access via her dad that money can’t buy.
