    1. If dragons really strengthened magic worldwide, it's interesting that some magical abilities persisted for over a century after the last dragon died.

    2. I love this. It's just Old Town versus Magic.

The Lords of House Hightower, the Sttarry Sept, The maesters in the Citadel. They had a virtual stranglehold on the continent. The only other place that had anything on Old Town was Hiighgarden, as it was a cultural center for the arts more than anything and the seat of the kings of the Reach.

But Old Town itself had more influence over the entire continent. Even in the heathen North they still had measters up there, even if fewer.

Suddenly these incestuous yahoos from the other side of the planet, explode their country and then come and try to steal theirs. The city of Old Town has been in quiet rebellion ever since.

    3. Hey Robert! Love your channel been watching it for so long by now.
Would you consider doing a video analysis of the ice dragon short story? I think its beautiful and i would love to hear you analyze it

    4. They weren't trying to kill the dragons. The were trying to end Targaryen's. That's why so many attempts to get dragons into a House of the South/7. Hightower, specifically. They knew they needed dragons. They hated Targaryen Rule.

    5. Why didn't the Targaryens exact tribute from the neighboring Free Cities by threatening to burn down their fleets and harbors with their dragons? Or, more generally, why weren't they more militant, especially during the Long Peace or before the Conquest?

Why did the Targaryens keep the Seven Kingdoms structure? Wouldn't having more, individually weaker kingdoms have benefited them?

They wouldn't have had to dismantle all seven kingdoms just the Westerlands, the Riverlands, and the Reach. Those three regions made up most of the Iron Throne's wealth and manpower, and each of them had powerful houses that would more than likely have welcomed being directly under the Crown instead of serving a Lord Paramount.

    6. It's interesting to note that after the Dance, we see a symbolic decline of the Targaryens through them losing symbols of their power one by one during subsequent reigns:

The death of the last dragon during Aegon III's reign.

Daeron I lost Aegon the Conquerer's crown when he was betrayed and murdered in Dorne.

Aegon IV gave Blackfyre to Daemon Blackfyre, and the sword vanished during Daeron II's reign when Bittersteel took the sword to Essos after the First Blackfyre Rebellion.

Aegon V let Bloodraven take Dark Sister to the Wall, where it later vanished along with Bloodraven beyond the Wall. And many if not the final last dragon eggs were destroyed in the tragedy of Summerhall.

Finally, Aerys II lost the Iron Throne itself with the downfall of the dynasty through Robert's Rebellion.

    7. The faceless men could have killed the dragons the first time just by killing the mages and causing the doom. Didn't even have to know much about the dragons.

    8. I imagine the inspiration for dragons not having a firm gender is komodo dragons the females can lay eggs without a male but theyre always male and I think always sterile

    9. I used to hate the cornball cartoon designs of the Westeros characters, but now that they are slowly being replaced by official art I find myself strongly preferring them. It is weird how we humans react to change.

    10. Sheepstealer. Nettles went and became kind of witch for the burned men tribes who would ne initiated by the dragons fire. Personally I think Michael Talks About Stuff has the right theory here. Nettles was Leaf in Glamour who then became Old Nan. Hence the direwolf seeing a snakey dragon leaving Winterfell after the burningg. That was Leaf returning to Bloodraven having "failed" to keep the Bran boy alive, not knowing that the body was not Bran at all.. Thus Sheepstealer was the "last"

    11. It's ironic, I suppose. The Others waited until all the dragons were dead before returning. Those who slew the dragons were indirectly responsible for the coming war.

    12. What ever happened to Nettles and Sheepstealer? Sheepstealer would have been young and healthy enough to live quite a long time after the dance, so I'm not convinced "the last dragon" could ever be confirmed to be literally the last dragon — just the last one anyone saw until Daenerys'.

    13. Why does nobody ever mention the Faith of the Seven when considering who may have wanted to be rid of the Dragons?
It was a self-styled priest that called for the storming of the Dragon Pit.
They had motive, since the Targaryens not only tended to brazenly disregard some of their rules, but were responsible for razing their temple in Old Town. Both of which were made possible because of the Targaryens had dragons.

    14. Morning hatching at the end of the Dance and dragons going extinct by 153. That means Morning lives to be only around 20 at most. A long ways from Balerion's almost 300 year lifetime 😢

    15. IMO Marwyn the Mage was bang on about the existence of Dragons being linked to Magic being present in the World of Westeros. But more specifically the blood and fire magic associated with Old Valyria, Asshai, and the Lord of Light.

In fact, I think the Tragedy at Summerhall was Aegon V’s attempt to bring blood magic back into the world, using himself and his family as blood sacrifices.
