Another pride month post: some heart-rending love declarations in LGBT movies and tv shows:
- In Schitt's Creek, David lip-syncs and bad dances "Simply the Best" to Patrick. Talk about queer joy.
- In Call Me By Your Name, Elio and Oliver have an emotional final phone call in which they indirectly reveal their feelings.
- Heated Rivalry – Ilya confesses his love for Shane in Russian (which Shane can't understand).
- Brokeback Mountain – the famous "I wish I knew how to quit you" monologue.
- Interview With the Vampire – Lestat writes Louis a heart-rending love letter. "Know only this, mon cher: you are the being I trust, and whom I love, above and beyond myself."
- Fellow Travelers – Hawks orders Skippy to write a letter to someone else. As he dictates the letter, he also indirectly declares his love for Hawk.
- Heartstopper – finally! Nick and Charlie declare their love.
- Glee – Brittany reveals she made Santana a Valentine's Day playlist. That's teen love.
- Portrait of a Lady on Fire – a heartrending farewell between Marianne and Heloise.
- Moonlight – Chiron and Kevin finally reconnect.
- The Children's Hour – recently saw this. I'm actually kind of stunned this movie was made in 1961. Both MacLaine and Hepburn are wonderful.
What's your favorite LGBT love declaration?

I loved in Schitts Creek when Patrick sings to David in front of everyone, especially his mom. Makes me cry every time
“I swear fealty to you, Clarke kom Skaikru”
I just watched that episode of Schitts Creek today on my rewatch :’)
At this point I would add the whole new season of the Vampire Lestat cause it’s a love declaration from him… to all his ehm cuestionable loves….
Moonlight got me sobbing ngl
brokeback mountain was devastating seeing it in theaters
P-Valley – Lil’ Murda and Uncle Clifford 🥲💕💕💕

Oh no you reminded me of that letter
I don’t remember if its stated verbally, but that episode of The Last Of Us with Bill and Frank is pretty much a whole episode heart-rending declaration of love. Goddamn I cried like a fuckin baby.
I think this counts because this is a couple that never really openly said I Love You to each other on the show much, but Mickey literally getting himself thrown in prison for Ian to protect him on Shameless will always be up there for me. Like that’s the definition of love and ride or die 🥰
The Brokeback Mountain one makes me cry just reading it. I only saw that movie once. It was too heartbreaking.
Also because I never get tired of this gif:

Adding Black Mirror San Junipero to the list.

Connor Storrie’s acting in that scene (in *Russian* !!!!) is so so so good. Like.. I don’t even have words good. That scene plus Kip & Scott’s love story are what truly sold me on the series. I know lots of people watch it for the spice but it’s not really up my alley and honestly the tender mushy gushy stuff is my favourite.
The Children’s Hour is so so good and still so relevant considering the play was written almost a hundred years ago. There was a new limited series adaptation announced a few years ago but it doesn’t look like it’s gone anywhere.
Pose – Papi singing “I swear” to Angel
As a wlw it’s kind of getting to me that I can’t think of any other really great/iconic declarations in wlw film and TV. But Portrait of a Lady on Fire was soooo good.
(On sight to anyone who brings up Rent lmfao. Jkjk but 😭)
Our Flag Means Death, Stede and Ed’s kiss on the beach at the end of season 1.
In Buffy, when Tara is getting back together with Willow “it takes time, to rebuild trust and you can’t just have coffee and expect… and can we skip that and can you just be kissing me right now?” 🥹😭
“You have to be with the person you love.”
“I am.”

Adding Alex and Henry!
Kelvin proposing to Keefe in the last season of The Righteous Gemstones

I will always be ride and die for Brian and Justin. I started watching it just as season 4 was finishing as a teen and it was so important to me. I remember sobbing at the series finale!
Also shout out to my mom who bought my sister and me the show on DVD even though we were both probably too young for that level of sex scenes. she is truly a real ally.
I love them so much
