Clay Aiken got candid about his tense moment with Kelly Ripa in 2006 while guest-hosting Live With Regis & Kelly, calling the days after “the most catastrophic week” of his life. The 47-year-old explained on a June 24 episode of the Hollywood Raw podcast, “I’m on the show because I wanted to show them I could handle this myself, I could host something. And I wasn’t getting to talk. Like, there were cue cards. They had my name on them. So I tried to be funny, and I did what I did, which was incredibly innocent. And then it got a little cold in the room. Where was Rosie’s apology for outing Clay? I remember watching that View episode and gasped knowing she had outed Clay to the public before he ever came out in public. Also, there are videos of Kelly covering Regis’s mouth prior to Clay doing it to her. Poor Clay.
He was trying to take over. He was dripping with misogyny during that incident. I think Kelly actually handled it well.
