I’m indifferent to Katy Perry, but the constant dogpiling, especially when it comes to her relationship, is like a mental illness at this point. I feel the same way about how Taylor Swift is treated.

She’s both an accused weirdo sexual abuser (by multiple people) AND has made cringe-y music for the past… decade. She could get away with either one of those things but not both. It’s that simple.

Same thing happened with Lizzo, when you build your career on being Quirky and Accepting and then do something awful AND the culture moves away from your brand of quirky, it’s over. There’s no pivot left.

This one wasn’t bad at all. Needed some layered vocals for the chorus but overall pretty decent. Hopefully it’ll chart later on.

No surprise but there was also like no marketing at all for it. Without reddit I wouldn’t even know it existed

    5. I’m convinced “Women’s World” only has the numbers it does because it’s on rotation in the grocery store/CVS/Goodwill retail playlist.

I actually like her music, I just don’t like her. That was fine back when it was just a matter of her being a little annoying, but she’s a creep. No thanks. I’ll continue to listen to her old songs I already have on my iPod, but nothing new.

    7. It was actually one of the better songs in years, but what she needs to do is seriously take a break after everytbing that’s happened the last couple of years

Just to compare to other debuts from the same day (unfiltered numbers, the filtered are a bit lower):

Katy Perry – Watch It Burn – 1,247,671

Charli XCX – wink wink 1,409,968 (also didn’t chart)

Gracie Abrams – look at my life – 2,192,177

      sombr – My Body Isn’t Ready’ – 1,991,536

Benson Boone – The Time Of My Life – 1,298,574

Phoebe Bridgers – Lost Boys 1,627,781

And also a note – Katy’s new music is not doing big numbers but her old one certainly does. Her compilation album The Ones That Got the Plays got 15,400,000 plays yesterday

I just haven’t loved any of here music since Teenage Dream, that album is so good, everything since has been not great to me.

I think a lot of artists are finding out the hard way that having one or even more songs go viral on the modern day internet rarely results in longevity. Legendary Lovers is having its moment on tiktok right now but it’s not sparked significant interest in Katy’s new stuff.

This particular community on Reddit really has it out for Katy Perry more so than anywhere else on the internet.

    12. It’ll never not be funny that she didn’t expect backlash from releasing a song about woman’s empowerment produced by the industries most prolific abuser.

They are literally playing so much Katy Perry on the Vancouver radio stations right now for no logical reason, but not this song.

    14. i literally only found out she dropped a song because of this thread lol. her team completely fumbled the rollout.

Well it was a bad song. How did bandaids do? That was actually a good song!

    16. jetsonholidays on

Didn’t she just release this song? I thought it’d appear on the next weeks chart if anything???

watch it burn is not what we want to hear from our resident lady astronaut

Finally we see an accused sexual abuser not fail upward. I’m glad she flopped, the weirdo. Also her music has been mid for like a decade.

    19. Her two new singles fascinate me. They have all the catchy elements of a great commercial pop song, but somehow don’t make me want to listen to them again. It’s like they’re too safe and predictable. Idk.

It’s honestly sad how all the women empowerment talk in here conveniently expires the moment it’s a woman people have decided to dislike. The music video thread got 0 upvotes, but the failure narrative gets 200.

Not liking someone doesn’t mean you have to pile on. Just scroll past.

Some people should just retire. She had a great run for a while and made millions. Just stop seeking attention and go away. That’s too hard for celebs though.
