If you ever see his footage with these kids you know he’s doing it for the right reasons. He doesn’t just say hi and give a hug. He really spends time with them.

Seriously, that is hard hard work to do the Make A Wish, he is the record holder for a reason. He gets what he’s doing and why and cares. Rare air. Takes a special soul to be able to hold that type of emotional load, got to be heavy sometimes. Not sure I could carry that weight as succefully as he does so easily.

They could never make he hate you John Cena! I really appreciate how understanding he is that it isn’t a job for everyone and how heavy these meetings could be.

I found it insanely hard volunteering at an orphanage (for an external program tying together orphans and elderly in homes with no family for visits and socialization). And like, I was seeing healthy kids in a positive program. Fucking broke my heart something fierce. I didn’t go back the next year. Cowardly, I know, but it’s so hard.
It’s easy to brush away what Cena does as he just rocks up and does a photo op, but that is NOT it. He’s truly amazing for this.

There was also a really great video a while back where a bunch of his former Make-a-Wish kids surprised him to say thank you, and he just kept saying “no, no, you guys are the great ones, thank YOU.”

I used to volunteer with Make-A-Wish. I unfortunately was only there for a short time (volunteered with one regional chapter than moved away and just didn’t have time to get back into it with another chapter) but in my time with them I granted two wished and helped with a few other wishes and projects the office needed help with. During my wish granting training they told us of a few celebrities who either would not grant wishes or had granted wishes and asked to do no more. I can disagree with their choices but I also understand where they come from. Imagine if someone told you that a sick kid’s one wish was to meet you, then imagine if you are a big pop star and there are a hundred kids who want to meet you. Some celebrities even had a wait list because there were so many kids it was hard to get everyone scheduled. It’s a lot emotionally. Even when I told people I volunteered with MAW, people would tell me “oh, I could never!” or “that sounds so sad, I couldn’t do it!”.
I do remember in the training, we went around the room and everyone answered why they were there and why they wanted to volunteer. One volunteer was a former wish kid herself who told us about meeting her favorite actress and how it had a such an impact on her. They just sat in a restaurant and had dinner together, nothing too crazy. And now that wish kid who recovered and was healthy wanted to give back and be a volunteer and help other sick kids.

I think he’s also never turned down a wish and will basically do anything to make it happen, even while wrestling 5+ days a week in different cities at his peak

I dont know squat about John Cena, but as a parent of a child who went through childhood cancer, this man must have a deep soul. Not even much of my inner circle could show up. Serious respect and love to this man ❤️

It also worth noting that he is child free. He doesn’t hate children; he just appreciates that is hard work to raise kids.

I always think of how amazing he is with his young fans and the make a wish kids when he’s been so vocal about being child free whenever I have to read an insufferable comment from the loudest child free people that think it’s a pass to openly hate children

This whole conversation is really beautiful and worth a full watch. Pete was incredibly vulnerable about his past being a make a wish kid to now granting wishes and the second his voice started to crack John took over to let him have a moment while he articulated this masterpiece. I wasn’t expecting such wholesomeness to come out of this pairing for actors in actors, but this conversation alone made it worth it

Why is an empty chair next to Pete Davidson making me cry?
This whole interview was great! Pete was really vulnerable during this interview. He was asked to do Make a Wish once and put a lot of pressure on himself and touched on his self esteem issues of not feeling good enough. He also talked about how in his childhood he was sort of a Make a Wish kid because he got to experience things he never would’ve because of loving his dad. It was a really interesting conversation.
