    1. I think my sister watched this movie. She told me that she watched a weird movie with Amanda Seyfred where the religious group was were called Shakers or something.

    2. I enjoyed it…but I couldn't get past watching the scenes of her repeated loss of babies. It was just too gut wrenching for me.

    3. I’m so happy to see discussion of this film, it is incredible and it’s a travesty that Amanda didn’t win a major award for it.

    4. This doesn’t surprise me at all. Christianity is a cult and a lot of the stuff they do, like taking communion, very much echoes witchcraft stuff that they forbid.

    5. Never heard of this movie before, thank you for sharing and now I have something to look forward to watching this weekend. Ann Lee was and is a fascinating person, the Shakers themselves were really interesting. There used to be a Shaker community up the road from where I live, but it's since gone and the compound is used by another organization. The pond still keeps the name, "Shaker Pond".

    6. Men who were accused of witchcraft were 20-25% (region and time varied) of all those tried and they were usually tortured and killed. Not hailed as prophets. Check the Salem Witch Trials and North Berwick Witch Trials for corroboration.
