During the Filming of The Hobbit (2012), the Icorne elf horse-riding sequence was pure illusion.
Orlando Bloom and Evangeline Lilly were actually bouncing on green screen rigs designed to mimic horse movement – with very exaggerated motion to sell the effect on camera. Orlando later joked: “I never thought horse riding could be that satisfying, if you know what I mean”
“The VFX team deserved a raise just for making this look family-friendly in the final edit.
