Co-CEO of DC Studios Peter Safran on ‘Supergirl’ underperforming at the box office: “While ‘Supergirl’ didn’t meet our box office expectations, it’s just one component of a broader, long-term strategy at DC Studios that we remain confident in.”

I had zero interest in it. But I also thought Superman last summer was awful. I genuinely could not fathom why it was so well received

Their strategy should involve some better marketing cause these “supergirl bombed” articles made me find out the movie was released.

    3. 2nd is disappointing now?

      JFC. We’re cooked.

It was a fun movie and I look forward to watching it again on Tuesday.

I was a bit saddened to hear it did poorly, but every massive franchise like this will have a flop like this that helps them get it straightened out, it’s good that it was earlier on and not later, especially if Supergirl is going to be a recurring character.

That being said, it’s very annoying that Alcock was so good in such a below average movie, but she should show up plenty of times in this franchise. Also, I haven’t read Woman of Tomorrow but everything I’ve heard from people who have said it was butchered by the film, so I hope this makes Gunn more careful about who he picks to direct things.

    5. If their long term strategy is to release a sequence of really disappointing films and criminally underuse their comic book IP then they’ve nailed it

    6. Milly was awesome!

The movie was okay, and I’m a fan of the source material. It was a weird choice for the second film in the new DCEU

    7. Milly was awesome

The rest of the movie was just okay, and I’m a fan of the source material

Weird twice for the second release in the new DCEU

    8. “Our strategy was to show up late to the superhero craze, have 1 good movie and then pump out garbage”

Chronicle or a death foretold. The executives knew how this would turn out from the test screenings alone. That’s why they didn’t even bother investing in marketing.

Let’s hope that long-term strategy actually exists because it does look bad for WB.

The movie seems to be a typical brown comic book movie, and the marketing strategy was expensive and bad.

    11. Watching this in 3D was actually a lot of fun. I’m glad I didn’t listen to all the negative reviews. According to reviews this should be the worst movie I’ve ever seen.

And isn’t it funny how people talk about box office numbers when it comes to women leading movies or movies with primarily minority leading actors….

I’m kind of surprised more people weren’t interested in a Supergirl movie. I thought this was well known IP but I guess not.

I went to go see it today with my children, my daughter really enjoyed it and so did I

Between the lines: we won’t make any other female superhero movies

Saw the movie with my wife. Milly is good but the rest of the movie is bad – there is basically no plot and it has tons of continuity problems. She also >!legitimately dies (stops breathing for a long period of time) and rezzes like nothing happened.!<

This is a b level superhero. Not one of the heavy hitters

So why is the movie being made with such a high budget?!

Dc have the big three. That’s it. Anything else is only worthy as a 2nd role or a TV show.

Personally they should have had her do more csmeo’s in the Gunn dc universe before conjuring up her own movie.

Their strategy should be showing their animated works in cinemas without a drop in quality.

Like, that’s it. I solved it for you DC.
