Seth Rogen said rich people used to spend their fortunes building things everyone could use.

Seth Rogen: Maybe this is like naive of me, but it seems like these rich people who are like, had outsized wealth, it seems like they used to like to have their names on things

Keanu Reeves: Libraries, that were like public…

Seth Rogen: able to be used by the public.

Keanu Reeves: National parks. You know what I mean? Yeah, parks…

Seth Rogen: …parks, observatories, libraries, museums, you know, things like that. And now it's like, people don't do that stuff anymore.

They don’t explain WHY that is.

I’ll try: first is societal backlash. In the past you could scrub your plate clean by building a library, a childrens hospital or a park. Now the billionaires own the media and public institutions are all in the hands of governments.

Second, philanthropy is mostly done through the exchange of money, so most of the time, it’s nit really visible… so why do it. When you see Mr. Beast’s Videos, he could just give money away, but there would be way less attention. So he does a bit of initial work by hiring people and makes videos for entertainment purposes.

And third, I guess, the mindset of billionaires seems be that they see themselves as saviours of the human race nowadays, whatever form that takes… it feels very disconnected, just as building Datacenters. But it seems like they live and think in a bubble that has absolutely nothing to do with working people anymore.

It falls a little flat when everybody on that stage is a multi millionaire themselves

Yes, they would spread a few breadcrumbs here and there, because they knew what a guillotine can do to a mf.

We can finance those parks, libraries and museums ourselves once we somehow stop the unprecedented wealth transfer we are living through.

Seth, the cheapest ash tray on your website is $90. Sounds like you have library-building money to me.

Seth Rogan sells $155.00 butter dishes. Maybe the money could go towards a park or a museum…

In the past the rich were told buying good will waa important.

Today, they realize they can just shitpost online to have the same effect.

Honestly what’s changed is the public has become…disgustingly ok with excesses of wealth

Okkkk so build a fckn library ? They can def afford to. It sounds like retarded that they’re complaining about this

Outside of the hypocrisy of multi millionaire actors saying “oh but we’re not really rich, that’s the billionaires. We have no responsibility to do anything with our millions because there exist people with billions,” this feels like a bunch of out of touch high schoolers BSing about what they think the world is like. They act as if billionaires are fairly hoarding wealth because nobody goes to libraries anymore?

I actually think the average high schooler has a more enlightened outlook on the issue than these people insulated by an industry propped up by wealth and privilege.

Lol I worked production for the Milken Conference (of Michael Milken, the junk bond king who helped cause the 80s financial crisis and is now somehow spearheading massively influential talks in the world of finance) a few years ago and Rogen was speaking on a panel there, so maybe that would have been a good opportunity for him to ask this question of said millionaires.
