Couple Scales Empire State Building Before Shocking Mid-Air Proposal | E! News

A couple climbed to the top of the Empire State Building July 1 before hanging a banner that read, “When the power of love beats the love of power, the world knows peace.” Angela Nikolau, 33, and Ivan Beerkus, 32, donned cat face masks as they climbed nearly 1,500 feet to the very top of the iconic New York City building, where they hung the banner without using safety equipment to secure themselves to the tower. In aerial footage of the ordeal, the individuals can be seen posing at the top of the building as helicopters circled them. While making their descent from the building’s needle, which sits 1,454 feet above NYC, they could be seen pausing on a nearby platform. Moments later, Beerkus dropped down on one knee while seemingly holding up a ring. He then stood up and embraced Nikolau, who removed her mask as the pair shared a kiss before capturing the moment with their cell phones. The street below was closed off as the NYPD responded to the scene, according to CBS News. The couple was taken into custody at around 1 p.m. No injuries were reported.
