Natalie Portman’s Unforgettable Performance: Black Swan
In Black Swan (2010) there are many details that serve a purpose. Mirrors, that are used quite often, reflect Nina’s fractured sense of identity, while the white and black colors she wears show her transformation throughout the story. Even the smallest production choices reinforce the film’s themes of perfection, obsession, and the struggle between innocence and desire. Behind the scenes, Natalie Portman and Mila Kunis underwent months of intensive ballet training, that makes the performance that much more believable. Thanks to the symbolism, visual storytelling, and incredible dedication from the cast, Black Swan remains one of the greatest psychological thrillers ever made.
