      High praise indeed

The Odyssey has certainly set itself up as a landmark of cinema, I fear all of this “it’s the best ever” is going to sting it if the Nolan-bros aren’t a fan of it

I’m sorry, but as the manager of Anne Hathaway’s 2nd Oscar campaign, I’m afraid we can’t let any other performances in the film get praise. Next time Holland.

I love Tom as a person… this just isn’t it.

But also Nolan has always struggled with creating Great Characters, so I’m not surprised that Tom Holland is his standard.

    4. Is he tho? When has he ever wowed anyone with his performance. No hate to him but he’s not some generational talent in acting

    5. I don’t buy it just yet. Tom seems like a nice fella, The Impossible is fantastic also due to him. But he hasn’t gotten the chance so far to prove himself as a great actor

I hope this movie is really good otherwise all the hype is just kind of embarrassing 😭

    7. Oh come on. Every fucking male ~~US~~ anglophone A list actor is one of the greatest actors, considering how lightly this praise gets tossed around

    8. I think his upcoming ~~Gene Kelly~~ **Fred Astaire** biopic will confirm what Nolan is saying here.

    9. Geez I hope this is good because I won’t be able to stomach Tom Holland getting hyped like this and then it being a flop.

    10. This sounds like a PR trained sentence to hype up his movie release. No one and i mean no one has ever considered tom holland as a good actor in anything he’s ever done. That’s ok.

I feel like Telemachus is the one role that should have gone to some absolutely unknown actor.

Telemachus is so important to the Odyssey that the first section of the epic is referred to as the “Telemachy.” I always thought Tom was a strong fit for the character so that’s great that Nolan confirms he is.

Definitely eager to see his performance. His career outside of Spider-Man has been very lackluster so wondering if this will change that perception.

I mean what the fuck else is he gonna say lmao ”Nah bruh Holland was a lil bitch who cant act” Come on now

    15. People are free to disagree, of course. At least at this point, I don’t think I’d call him a “generational talent” either, but I feel like he is too often being dismissed and described as “just ok” as an actor. He’s more talented than “just ok” and I do think his involvement with Nolan is exciting.

This level of praise also kind of hints at a supporting actor campaign for him imo? But who knows

    16. Imagine he came out and was like “you know, that Tom fellow? In my upcoming movie? Not a fan.”

He finally got an amazing note. Remember he was talking about Zendaya getting a note that she was perfect, and Tom and Matt Da.on discussed that and how they never get notes like that. Poor Matt, where is his high praise?

I just realised I have never seen Tom Holland acting. I only know his Umbrella performance which is top tier

    19. BluthFamilyNews on

Tom should have an Oscar for The Impossible. Maybe his performance in The Odyssey lives up to that performance.

    20. Kobe_AYEEEEE on

I think Spider-Man just kind of ruined his perception no matter if he’s a good actor or not. I think he does well in that role but now its gotten too big for him to do other things without immersion breaking.

    21. I will concur with most of you that the particular phrase Nolan uses seems a tad hyperbolic. I think it’s definitely premature – but I think Holland may well have the talent to amass the kind of CV, over the next 15-20 years, that will compel us to look at him as one of the greats of his time.

Tom is getting a lot of praise rn.

Especially in the midst of a film with an insane cast.

    23. Independent_Pie_1368 on

Well i didn’t like his work on cherry and the film he did with Robert Pattinson(the devil all the time) I just don’t think he has the capabilities to a character actor, but I liked his role as Spiderman in marvel.

    24. Sudden-Direction-301 on

I like Tom Holland, as a celeb and as Spiderman, but I’ll believe this when I see it.

    25. I’m with him, I mean I haven’t seen the movie but the slander around his acting is so odd when in multiple movies he’s genuinely been very very good
