It’s Netflix’s fault for canceling so many after one season. People have been burned too many times.

Dear Netflix,
It’s been four years since season one. You forgot to advertise season two. Also if you don’t think people can stay off their phones for a two hour movie, how can they care about the continuation of an eight episode series they watched years ago?
AgentAled on
Everyone will use this to jump on and attack Netflix I’m sure, because they have such a track record of cancelling individual people’s favourite shows.
But this would be true of nearly any show, new shows will peak at season one and with each new season lose viewership because people forget, lose interest, move on or the plot/characters have changed dramatically from the original premises.
curiousthoughts20 on
This happens for lots of reasons:
– with 2-3 years between seasons I lose all interest in the show.
– 10 episode seasons make it tough to really build an audience
– Netflix canceling shows too frequently has led to a lack of reason to invest in a show
The broadcast networks had a much better approach than Netflix
futuresdawn on
They don’t promote shows after season 1, and they rarely do a good job of that, and they rely on the algorithm, between this and some of their shows having a significant gap, what do they expect.
I wouldn’t have seen season two of 4 seasons if not for the fact that a friend did have the algorithm suggest it to her and messaged me about season 2 while watching it.

Some of the shows don’t deserve me completing one season much less watching more

And that’s because Netflix takes way too long to release new seasons which is what kills excitement and cancels a lot of their shows after 1-2 seasons which kills investment.
Thankfully they’re starting to learn their lesson with the former with both the upcoming third season of One Piece and fifth season of Bridgerton coming out next year.

Seasons are too short and you have to wait too long. I mean 6 to 8 episodes is not enough.

Shows take time to build an audience, even regular channels take time. Netflix has too few episodes in a season and the gap between seasons is too long that I just stop caring.

Binge drops plus long gaps between seasons. The binge release model compresses the period that the show is in the zeitgeist from, say, 10 weeks for a 10-episode season, to the 1 week it takes users to crank through the show. That means the cultural conversation is very brief, and all the marketing has to grab people in that condensed window. Add to that the long gap between seasons—made longer by the shortened marketing window—and no one remembers what the show was about when the next season drops.
Contrast that with a program like Slow Horses. Weekly episode drops create a longer conversational window and a narrower production gap. FFS, there was a teaser for S6 at the end of the last episode of S5.

Netflix does the same thing.

Respectfully, one it takes about 100 years for them to make a new season intentionally now. They keep green lighting. The worst shows in the first place there’s no need to have a second season and when they give them a greenlight for that second season it’s even worse than the first.

Is it because
1) they cancel shows fast or
2) its eons between shows?
I haven’t watched the new season of Severance on Apple because it was one million years between seasons and I have to rewatch the first to remember it.

Netflix has cancelled so, so many shows after a single season, including hits. How can they be surprised when their audience responds in kind? Hell, I won’t even start one of their shows unless I know it’s a one off mini series or such a big hit it’s guaranteed to be renewed. And thus the toilet swirls downward.

It’s because the quality of shows have gone way down, way, way down. I cancelled Netflix cause I legitimately wasn’t watching anything on it. Same as Disney, they are relying to much on quantity garbage over quality kinda garbage shows.

Because Netflix is a bunch of tech bros and they don’t give a shit about building fan bases or loyalty. Now they’re just filling the platform with garbage and hoping people are too lazy to cancel.

I’ve always compared Netflix serials to British ones. fFor the first season or two they’re great. After two series rhe Brits are smart enough to end the show as the writers have done everything they want with it. Netflix just keeps trying to milk it until they’re being written by AI.

Maybe because they suck?
Like, not to be that guy but…rushed plots, terrible characters, bad writing, the list goes on. Oh and they have to repeat every brain dead plot point 5 times out loud because they think that aggressively courting idiots who sit on their phones while watching TV is somehow a good idea? It’s garbage TV. Which is a shame because less than 10 years ago they were cranking out *banger* shows left and right.
So I just got done watching The Bear and it was amazing. Absolutely top notch. No repeated plot points. No expensive sets or special effects. Core cast was not a bunch of big name actors. And yet it absolutely crushed every Netflix show I’ve watched for the past few years…
