A major scandal appears to be brewing.

Details: After the World Cup match between France and Paraguay, Paraguayan senator Celeste Amarilla delivered a harsh tirade against Kylian Mbappé.

In her speech, she used offensive and derogatory language, targeting the French striker’s origins and appearance, and claimed that the French national team won “only thanks to luck.”

“Mbappé? That savage never even learned to write. Instead of drinking his mother’s milk, he sucked coconuts, and the most educated beings he ever heard were chimpanzees. A Cameroonian from a former colony who pretends to be French – vindictive, arrogant, and ugly. He was nervous and utterly terrified throughout the match, just like his whole team. They only won because of luck. The only thing you could blame Paraguay for is that no one slapped him at the end of the match.” — Paraguayan senator Celeste Amarilla

The politician’s remarks sparked widespread public outrage and criticism due to the racist and offensive nature of her statements.

    1. **Me 10 seconds ago:** Hm, I dunno, we’ve heard some crazy stuff from politicians these past few years. How bad could it be?

**Me after 0.2 seconds of reading:** *Jesus fucking Christ.*

Oh my god? That was worse than I ever imagined when I read the headline.

Kylian Mbappé is super kind and outspoken about humanitarian causes as well as a fantastic footballer.

He’s also classy, as demonstrated by his kind compliments about the Paraguayan team which in fact, played and acted with zero decorum during that match and should have received about 5 red cards.

Absolutely vile. On top of the blatant racism, claiming that the French team won due to luck when Mbappé is probably the best player in the world right now is just insane

    5. Not that it matters but Mbappé literally speaks three languages.

Her going on and on about him being from a country that was heavily colonized by the French and due to that he is trying too hard to be French (*in her words “fingiendo duro ser francés”*) is rich coming from someone from LATAM and I say that as a Mexican.

      Edit: to add ~italics~

    6. Yep. It’s everywhere and there is a reason why they all feel emboldened to reveal themselves

      Yesss, drag her to filth.
Or better yet, let her fade to obscurity to whatever hole she crawled out of.

    8. Wow what a beautiful, classy response from him. He had every right to be angry but still chose to be kind and complimentary of the Paraguayan players (most of whom played dirty as hell against him btw), and has shown himself to be better than this vile racist ghoul in every way, especially in matters of intellect.

Racism is really correlated with stupidity, because only the dumbest numbskulls could insult the best footballer of his generation who speaks 3 languages fluently and is known for giving intelligent statements to the press as “subhuman” simply because he dares to be Black while beating your team (who also played so badly they only completed 99 passes in 90+ minutes).

Any level-headed Paraguayan would be embarrassed by their team’s performance. They did not play to win; they didn’t even attempt to score after being down 1 goal; they only aimed to provoke and injure the French teams with dangerous fouls, punches to the face, elbows to the stomach etc. One Paraguayan player tried to tamper with the pitch before France took their penalty (truly disgusting behaviour) while another erased the chalk line the ref drew for a free kick so he could move the ball up further and cheat. It’s one of the ugliest, most disgraceful performances I’ve ever seen in any sport. So many neutrals were rooting for Paraguay as the underdogs and the same neutrals were all shocked and appalled by their behaviours.

    9. Y’all really don’t know how racist, xenophobic and antisemitic South America really is. And it’s so casual, it’s infuriating

One of the most perplexing/wtf has been people not understanding that black people are born and raised in various parts of the world that are not Africa, the Caribbean, or the US.

This man is one of the main faces of football, even my American ass knows this. He carries himself well, but unfortunately, as much as the World Cup has provided so much beauty and joy, this foul mouth creature reminds us of the state of the world.

Mbappé showing incredible class here in the face of such vitriol.

And gracious too. We all saw that match, Paraguay played dirty.

I’m not surprised, after people said Paraguay and Argentina are synonymous with racism then this tracks or was it Uruguay? Black people are hated across the diaspora and entire world, that’s why I can’t get with this FBA nonsense and such, they just see our skin and hate it, it doesn’t matter where you’re from.

As a Black American, hearing some of the racist insults that come out of other countries is kind of fascinating. The racism itself obviously isn’t fascinating or shocking, but the insults often feel incredibly old-school. There’s almost no creativity to it. It’s just, “You banana-eating ape. You savage.”

I’m always like, “That’s really the best you’ve got?” It’s so cartoonishly stupid. I’m glad Mbappe made the statement. He’s a great player that I’ve enjoyed watching this world cup.
