Crazy how Italy fell off a cliff football wise since then. I think the farthest they have gotten was round of 16 since.

I wanted France to win (I hated Italy for what they did to Australia in the round of 16 that tournament) but my goodness this Italian side was really fucking good looking.

    3. I was too young to remember this game, but my dad still calls Zinedine Zidane as the greatest midfielder of all time. Look up his performance against Brazil in the quarterfinal of this tournament.

    4. Zidane is so kind, giving Materazzi a creative Heimlich after he saw him choking on gum

I remember my brother, cousins, and I sobbing so hard over this. I still can’t stand Materazzi to this day and I am still so upset that Trezeguet missed his pen that I booed Egyptian Trezeguet at this year’s world cup before I learned they were in fact not related lol

I happened to be in Rome on vacation at the time, and the streets were absolutely wild!!

It was such a joyous celebration, with cars moving so slowly in the streets not going anywhere in particular, but honking, shouting, and singing (with happiness).

      An atmosphere to remember!

    6. I chose to beloeve they didn’t make it this year because they didn’t want to be part of this corrupt, racist, entitle, sellout of a world cup. 😊

Zidane has had quite the comeback though, he’s in the conversation for greatest manager of all time (only one to win Champions League 3x times in a row) and if he gets the job to manage France and win the World Cup, that’s the end of the movie

    8. Btw this was Italy’s last World Cup knockout match. They were out in the group stage both in 2010 and 2014, and failed to qualify in the three following tournaments.
