Kate Winslet reveals the media called her overweight when she was a size 10 with a 26.5 inch waist
"I was always a very normal shape. And it was only when suddenly the media decided that I was overweight when I was a size, oh my god I don't know, 10, 12, 14, whatever. I was a young person living life and just being normal"
"I remember having my measurements taken for Sense and Sensibility. And I remember the costume designer saying to me, 'Cor, 26 and a half inch waist. I don't think I've been that since I was your age'"
"I wasn't even aware of what was a small measurement or a big measurement. I didn't have a clue. But I was actually quite petite"

When people body shame celebrities for being they don’t know the impact it has on non celebrity women and little girls. I remember hearing people say Wherever Whenever Shakira was a far cow and this trauma is still with me
My closest celeb lookalike was Lena Dunham at the height of Girls, I had the big round eyes, pixie cut, round face, and a “normal” body that was by all public accounts seemingly fricking obese. Horrible.
The media in the 90s and early 2000s was absolutely brutal to young women in particular. The way they talked about women who were of normal weight, often even slim, is genuinely shocking in hindsight and women with rounder faces or a bigger bust like Kate Winslet or Renée Zellweger were particularly being targeted.
I feel for every woman who was in the limelight at the time, and for all of the young girls and women who grew up with this kind of beauty standard being perpetuated in all forms of media. And, unfortunately, I wish I could say we moved past this, but I am seeing the same patterns today, just not necessarily in mainstream media but across social media platforms.
Is this all she and reddit talk about
Well she definitely wasn’t “petite,” she was healthy, normal sized and beautiful.
90s and early 2000s were fucked when it came to body image and open fat-shaming.
You look back at these women (and girls) who were called “fat” – they were often slim or normal & healthy!
They made Bridget Jones seem like she was obese – but she was a normal weight!
Now the trend for slim is coming back thanks to GLP-1. However, it is not as bad now – I think people are more aware now, and you do not have these trashy magazines calling people fat.
Kate wasn’t petite? She’s over 5ft6 and was the average dress size or a size or two below that in the 90s.
She’s was completely average and normal and should never have been described as big. But you’re misusing the word petite, it’s to describe height. And even with the misusage, meaning very slender, it’s incorrect.
